PS Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job Summary

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  1. Serves as a neurovascular "nurse navigator" by coordinating referrals, patient/family education and care planning, relating to patients with neurovascular pathologies, streamlining their care experience at the University. Develops and evaluates education programs and materials to facilitate patient education and care planning in these areas.
  2. Works with IT and Neurosciences Outreach to collect comprehensive data to understand and quantify the neurovascular telehealth program (studying regional use rates, barriers to care, patient experience, etc). Will work intra- and interdepartmentally to develop and evaluate standards, policies and procedures for provision of a safe and therapeutic patient environment.
  3. Acts as a liaison with intuitional biomedical informatics core for quantitative data analysis, working closely with affiliated faculty.
  4. Provides clinical education to clinic and nursing staff, and care coordinators. Develops and conducts continuing education programs utilizing internal and external resources based on an evaluation of continuing education needs.
  5. Serves as a content expert in developing and providing education for specialty area (neurovascular).
  6. Functions as liaison to staff in complex outpatient patient care situations. Collaborates on the development of guidelines for documentation and care planning based on current clinical and research information.
  7. Promotes the utilization of research findings in clinical practice. Facilitates and/or conducts research independently and/or collaboratively.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the aforementioned essential functions.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in a nurse specialty from an accredited program; current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse or as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse (A.P.R.N.) in the State of Utah; basic life support health care provider card or obtain one within one month of hire; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
