Job Description
The Unit for Experimental Psychiatry, under the direction of Mathias Basner, MD, PhD, MScEpi is an integrated group of scientific investigators, focused on achieving creative and practical solutions to problems involving human health and safety in relation to noise, sleep need, circadian rhythms, work demands, fatigue, and vulnerability to emotional disturbance, memory distortions, and other sources of stress or discomfort. The offices of the faculty, staff and student trainees of the Unit for Experimental Psychiatry are located on the 10th floor of Blockley Hall in the School of Medicine. When applicable, the Unit's scientific research studies are undertaken in the Chronobiology Isolation Laboratory (Ground Centrex) and in the Center for Human Phenomic Science (6 Ravdin) in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The research currently performed by the Unit is supported by grants from the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the Translational Research Institute for Space Health, and the National Institutes of Health,.
Research Assistant positions are available for undergraduate work-study and student workers during the summer and academic year. These positions provide an opportunity for hands-on experience for those students interested in noise and sleep research. You must possess the following qualifications: (1) mature; (2) dependable; (3) highly motivated; (4) organized and detail-oriented; (5) able to work independently and remain focused on data entry and analysis; (6) able to interact with people of all different ages and backgrounds; and (7) able to work flexible hours including evening, weekend, and 1-2 overnight shifts (Friday or Saturday) per semester as needed for in-lab research protocols. Training is provided for new students.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level.
