Assistant Women's Softball Coach (Full-Time)

Position: Assistant Women's Softball Coach (Coaching Assistant, 12 Month)

Position: The Athletics Department at California State University, Bakersfield, a NCAA Division I institution, invites applications for a Women's Softball Assistant Coach. This is a non-tenured position.

As part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the Assistant Softball Coach plays a vital role in supporting the Head Coach in all aspects of program administration, student-athlete development, game preparation, recruiting, and team operations. This position provides an opportunity to contribute to the success of the softball program while promoting academic achievement, athletic excellence, and personal development among student-athletes.

Major Job Duties: (Essential functions)
  • Assist the Head Coach in the administration and daily operation of the softball program.
  • Teach and instruct student-athletes in softball-specific skills during practices, individual workouts, and competitions.
  • Assist with practice planning, game preparation, scouting reports, video analysis, and opponent evaluation.
  • Recruit prospective student-athletes through evaluations, correspondence, phone calls, campus visits, and off-campus recruiting activities.
  • Maintain recruiting records and complete all required NCAA, conference, and institutional documentation.
  • Support the academic success and retention of student-athletes by working closely with academic support personnel.
  • Assist with scheduling, travel coordination, equipment management, and other operational functions of the program.
  • Work collaboratively with Athletics support units including Compliance, Sports Medicine, Strength and Conditioning, Academic Services, Equipment Operations, Marketing, Development, Facilities, and Sports Information.
  • Assist in the planning and administration of softball camps and clinics.
  • Ensure compliance with all NCAA, conference, University, and Athletics Department policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Athletics Administration.

    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education. In exceptional circumstances, an equivalent combination of education and extensive softball coaching, playing, or related professional experience demonstrating a high level of achievement and expertise in the sport may be substituted for the degree requirement.
  • One (1) year or more of competitive softball coaching, playing, or related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with student-athletes from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to comply with NCAA, conference, University, and Athletics Department rules and regulations.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience coaching or playing softball in a collegiate athletics program, preferably at the NCAA Division I level.
  • Experience recruiting prospective student-athletes in a collegiate setting.
  • Experience organizing and conducting softball camps and clinics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations.

    Compensation: This appointment is a full-time position and is paid monthly. The salary range for this classification is $6,288-$7,658, in accordance with the CSU Unit 3 salary schedule (Coaching Assistant-12 months).

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,288 monthly. Actual salary is commensurate with education and experience.
