Job Description:

Madison College is seeking a Head Men's Basketball Coach and Part-Time Kinesiology Instructor to lead our NJCAA men's basketball program while teaching within our Kinesiology program. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about coaching, student development, and higher education.

As the Head Coach, you will oversee all aspects of the men's basketball program, including recruiting, coaching, player development, scheduling, compliance, and program operations. As a part-time instructor, you will teach Kinesiology courses and support students pursuing careers in health, fitness, and physical education.

Success in this role requires someone who can build a competitive basketball program while creating a positive student experience both on and off the court.

This position reports to the Director of Athletics and to the Associate Dean in the School of STEM for the instructional responsibilities.

What You'll Do

Athletics
  • Lead all aspects of the NJCAA men's basketball program, including planning practices, coaching competitions, and developing student-athletes.
  • Recruit and retain qualified student-athletes while maintaining all required recruiting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with NJCAA, conference, and college policies and eligibility requirements.
  • Supervise assistant coaches, student managers, and other team personnel.
  • Coordinate game schedules with the Director of Athletics.
  • Manage the team's budget, equipment, uniforms, and fundraising activities.
  • Work closely with academic advisors and campus partners to support student success.
  • Represent Madison College and the Athletics Department in the community and at conference, regional, and national meetings.


Instruction:
  • Teach a minimum of 7 contact hours per semester in the Kinesiology program.
  • Depending on the timing of hire, teaching responsibilities may begin in Spring 2027.
  • Courses may include Performance Strength & Nutrition, First Aid & CPR, Health & Fitness for Life, and activity-based courses.
  • Advise students, particularly those planning to transfer into Kinesiology or Physical Education programs.
  • Develop engaging learning experiences using a variety of instructional methods, including face-to-face and online instruction.


What We're Looking For:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education
  • Master's degree in Kinesiology or
  • Master's degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate credits in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or Physical Education.

Experience
  • Two (2) years (4,000 hours) of recent experience related to coaching and/or teaching responsibilities.
  • Experience recruiting and developing student-athletes.
  • Three to five years of experience in an intercollegiate athletics setting is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of NJCAA rules, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to recruit, coach, and mentor student-athletes.
  • Experience developing and delivering college-level instruction.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with students, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and standard computer applications.
  • Commitment to Madison College's values of excellence, respect, and integrity.

Position Information

Schedule: This is a full-time, exempt, 52-week position. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday; however, evening and weekend work is expected during the athletic season, and flexibility is required.

Benefits: Madison College offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, paid vacation and holidays, and participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS). The selected candidate will serve a twelve-month introductory period. Relocation assistance is not available.
