The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training and internal pay comparison. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

The Vice Dean will provide holistic, high-level oversight, support, and direction for administrative functions at the School of Law. The VD is tasked with creating a strong, efficient team, with a high level of organizational effectiveness. Directly manages non-academic assistant and associate deans, including all aspects of individual and team assessment, professional development, management, and mentoring for non-academic assistant and associate deans, with input from the Dean. Also serves as a resource for other members of the senior leadership team. Directly responsible for oversight of all administrative operations and ensuring operational efficiency and effectiveness through process improvement, workflow redesign, and alignment of daily operations, projects, and programs to strategic priorities. Maintains a productive, collaborative, transparent, and collegial environment for all faculty and staff, and helps to ensure positive student outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Directly manage team of 7 senior staff, serve as a resource for faculty directors, Dean's Executive Office Manager and Assistant Director, Project Management, academic deans and Assistant Dean of Development and Alumni Relations.
- Responsible for managing, training, evaluating, and developing staff, prioritizing work according to strategic priorities and ensuring efficient, functional, transparent, operations for all faculty, staff, and students at the School of Law.
- Oversee the senior leadership team in maintaining a supportive and productive culture within the law school that encourages collaboration, transparency, and appropriate risk-taking in pursuit of mission and strategic goals.
- Work with Dean's Assistant Director, Project Management and Executive Office Manager, Assistant Dean for Administration, and Associate Deans to align and Dean's schedule to focus on critical priorities while ensuring a continuous and collegial flow of communication between the Dean, Vice Dean, and the senior administration regarding operations and key priorities.
- Serve as Dean's representative in meetings with key stakeholders as requested.
- Support BU Law's Strategic Plan by aligning it to the University's overall strategy, incorporating the Dean's emerging vision, and working with all units and unit heads to develop operational plans that transform that vision into tangible, measurable actions.
- Provide strategic guidance and input into expansion of graduate program offerings, and ensure budget is being effectively used in support of key priorities.
- Develop and strengthen key relationships, between BU Law and University administrative partners including the Office of the Provost, Office of the CFO & Treasurer, Human Resources, Development & Alumni Relations, External Affairs, Information Services & Technology, and Operations, and members of the Boston Legal Community.
- Work strategically with Dean, Assistant Dean for Marketing, Communications, and Graduate Admissions, and Assistant Dean for Development to design a fundraising campaign in support of Dean's vision, mission and strategic priorities for the School of Law.
