Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) is one of the most established districts in the state and has been in operation for nearly 50 years. About the Position
The ideal candidate will demonstrate cultural competency in serving diverse community college student populations, including those with differing abilities, AB 540 students, DACA recipients, Foreign Residents, VACA participants, Dual Enrollment, and Continuing Education students. They will support RSCCD's mission to promote self-awareness, knowledge, and communication skills, enabling students to participate creatively and confidently in an ever-changing world.
Candidates will cultivate an inclusive classroom culture that engages and supports a diverse student population. They should effectively teach students from varied ethnic, racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, including those with disabilities or differing academic preparation levels. Responsibilities
The Assistant Professor/Faculty Coordinator, VN-Healthcare provides instructional leadership and academic coordination for Vocational Nursing and Healthcare programs. This position combines faculty responsibilities with program coordination, supporting curriculum integrity, instructional quality, faculty collaboration, student success, and alignment with workforce and community needs. The Faculty Coordinator serves as a key liaison between the college, healthcare and training facilities, workforce partners, and community agencies, and plays a central role in the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of occupational Healthcare courses and programs.
- Coordinate meetings with local agencies, workforce partners, and medical and healthcare facilities to support the development, maintenance, and sustainability of occupational programs and instructional offerings within Allied Health.
- Participate in the creation, implementation, review, and ongoing maintenance of Allied Health courses and programs, including curriculum development, course sequencing, and maintenance of course outlines of record in accordance with college curriculum processes.
- Oversee and participate in the creation of sharable classroom curricular materials such as Online Educational Resources (OER), course modules, and CANVAS shells.
- Coordinate instructional needs across Healthcare programs and recommend the purchase of supplies, equipment, textbooks, instructional materials, and software to support effective teaching and learning.
- Provide academic coordination to ensure instructional quality, consistency across instructional sites, and alignment with industry standards and employer needs.
- May include instructional hours during the day, evening, weekend, or off-campus assignments as required unless excused in accordance with Board Policy, administrative procedures, or collective bargaining provisions.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of student enrollment, attendance, academic progress, clinical participation, and completion, as required by college policies, accreditation boards, and instructional programs.
- Assist in the hiring selection, onboarding, and orientation of new instructors and instructional assistants, including communicating instructional expectations, curriculum requirements, and departmental procedures.
- Serve as a liaison between faculty, administration, students, and external partners to support instructional delivery, clinical coordination, and workforce alignment.
- Be familiar with and observe all applicable college administrative regulations, policies, procedures, and instructional standards, and support faculty compliance with the same.
- Participate actively in college governance, including department meetings, noncredit and/or credit committees, advisory committees, professional development activities, and other institutional service assignments.
- Support program evaluation, student success initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts through data review, faculty collaboration, and stakeholder feedback.
- Perform other faculty and coordination duties as assigned in support of Healthcare programs and the mission of the college.
QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
(Applicants must meet one of the following):
- Possess from an accredited institution: Bachelor's degree; and two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught, OR Associate degree; and six years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught, OR
- Possess a valid California Community College credential authorizing service in the discipline
- Candidate must demonstrate clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and the community. Experience in teaching student from diverse ethnic socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds who have diverse identities and varying levels of proficiency.
Additional Qualifications
The Assistant Professor/Coordinator, Career Education - Allied Health must meet all requirements established by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT) to serve in a Director or Assistant Director capacity for state-approved programs.
Applicants must demonstrate the following:
- RN Licensure - Hold a current California active license as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Education - Hold a baccalaureate degree from an approved school
- Professional Experience
- Have a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Registered Nurse, AND
- At least one (1) year of teaching or clinical supervision experience, or a combination thereof, in a state-approved registered nursing, vocational/practical nursing, or psychiatric technician program within the last five (5) years
OR - A minimum of three (3) years of experience in nursing administration or nursing education within the last five (5) years
- At least one (1) year of teaching or clinical supervision experience, or a combination thereof, in a state-approved registered nursing, vocational/practical nursing, or psychiatric technician program within the last five (5) years
- Have a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Registered Nurse, AND
- Required Coursework (Mandatory Documentation)
- Have successfully completed courses offered by an approved school in all of the following areas:
- Administration
- Teaching
- Curriculum Development
- Have successfully completed courses offered by an approved school in all of the following areas:
Desirable Qualifications
- A working knowledge of and experience with student learning outcomes and assessment.
- Experience with interdisciplinary and community engagement.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, establish and meet deadlines, and work cooperatively with others.
