Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS) at Cerritos College is a student support program designed to go "above and beyond" to provide equitable access and support services to students who face economic and educational barriers in higher education. Within this framework, the Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) program serves as a specialized subset of EOPS specifically for single-parenting students who receive cash aid (CalWORKs/TANF). Our mission is to enhance student achievement by fostering self-advocacy and providing the essential tools and "wrap-around" support necessary for our students to overcome obstacles and reach their academic and career goals. As part of the Division of Student Equity and Success, EOPS and CARE belong to a comprehensive department of support programs that also includes the LINC, NextUp, and CalWORKs programs.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work or career development, or the equivalent,
AND
EOPS counselors hired after October 24, 1987, shall:
(1) Have completed a minimum of nine semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages
OR
(2) Have completed six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages
AND
In addition, an EOPS counselor hired after October 24, 1987, shall have two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages
Understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic background of the student, community, and employee population.
Preferred Qualifications
Direct experience counseling within an EOPS program preferred. Also, experience working/counseling single parenting students and/or current/former foster youth preferred.

Physical Limitations
Physical requirements may be met with or without reasonable accommodations.
1. Ambulatory ability to move to various office and classroom-type locations and to stand, bend, stoop, and reach to setup equipment and provide instruction.
2. Sufficient hand eye coordination and dexterity to write on a board or type on a computer.
3. Must be able to recognize printed material (printed or online) for more than 50% of the expected work time and make presentations.
4. Sufficient auditory ability to project voice to a group, hear questions and prompts, and carry on routine conversations.
5. The ability to lift, push, and pull objects of medium weight (less than 30 lbs.) on an occasional basis.
Conditions of Employment
1. Assignments are contingent upon sufficient funding and enrollment.
2. Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend classes.
3. Individual who is offered employment shall be required to:
- Obtain fingerprints for a criminal history clearance through the State Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (if hired after June 1, 2023).
- Produce an original social security card, and
- Submit negative TB test results (must be within the past four years or within the last 60 days if not previously employed in a school district in California) before employment. Faculty must be able to teach on-campus or remotely as assigned.
Candidates must be able to provide proof of California residency prior to employment.
Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and signing of loyalty oath per Government Codes 3100-3109.

Selection Procedure
Application materials will be evaluated by a selection committee to determine which applicants' qualifications, based on the information in the job announcement, best suit the needs of the District and the Department. The selection committee will conduct interviews and may include a teaching demonstration in order to determine which applicant best demonstrate the skill and knowledge required for the position. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list for employment and will be contacted for employment opportunities based on the District's needs.
