Job Description
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Cuyamaca College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Microbiology Professor to join our dynamic Biology Department. This position is responsible for teaching paramedical microbiology and supporting student pathways in Allied Health and Life Sciences while fostering an inclusive, equity focused learning environment.
The successful candidate will teach paramedical microbiology as well as other introductory or major-level classes, with enthusiasm and a commitment to inclusive, student-centered pedagogy. We seek an educator to participate in curriculum development and program improvement, including the integration of culturally relevant and equity minded approaches that support engagement, persistence and achievement. This role will directly impact students' success and transferability to a university as well as their access to high-demand careers in health and life sciences.
Interested candidates should also be passionate about participating in departmental and college-wide initiatives aimed at improving access and success for all students. This includes developing work-based learning opportunities that inspire students to choose diverse career pathways in Allied Health and STEM. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under administrative leadership, it is the responsibility of the regular/contract college instructor to participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses, and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the visions, missions, and values of the College and District.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's in any biological science OR Bachelor's in any biological science AND Master's in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science OR The equivalent.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Academic preparation to teach and develop curriculum in paramedical microbiology as well as introductory and other transfer-level biology classes.
- Experience teaching biology including, but not limited to high school, community college, or university level, including graduate teaching assistant experience.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate biological concepts to students at all levels using active, student-centered, and collaborative learning environments.
- Ability to develop, implement and maintain laboratory exercises, integrating hands-on and inquiry-based learning experiences, in collaboration with lab technicians and department colleagues.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity, with sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, language, ability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
- Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues and contribute to departmental and institutional goals.
- Experience developing and/or implementing culturally relevant and equity-minded curricula and instructional practices to inspire and support students from first-generation, historically marginalized or underrepresented populations to thrive in Allied Health and/or STEM.
- Evidence of reflective practices or professional development aimed at reducing achievement gaps and improving student retention, persistence, or success in biology related disciplines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience advising or mentoring students on academic transfer pathways and careers in Allied Health, Biology, or related fields.
- Familiarity with work-based learning strategies and/or experience developing partnerships with local industry or community organizations.
- Experience developing interdisciplinary connections that situate biology within broader contexts, such as public health, health equity, social justice, environmental sustainability, or other STEM fields.
- Experience using or willingness to adopt current instructional technologies, including low-cost or open educational resources, and/or AI literacy practices to enhance student access and success in an educational environment.
- Demonstrated interest in contributing to the planning, operation, continued improvements, and/or growth of a Biology Department.
