Job Description:
What We Are Looking For

Baylor University is seeking a Baylor School of Music Black Worship Studies Program Manager that will manage and implement areas for the study of Black worship research, manage event programming protocols, and administer the implementation of project activities within the Baylor School of Music/Black Music Events, and Black Gospel Music Archives. The manager's duties will include planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating program activities including graduate associate support, organizing BGA tours, symposia, and workshops.

This is a temporary position and is anticipated to end on 12/31/2028.

A Bachelor's degree in worship, African American Studies, Ministry, Theology, and Arts-based discipline, archiving, or a related music field, and two years of relevant work experience are required.

All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Ideal candidates will possess the following knowledge/skills/abilities:
  • Understanding of Christian ministry including congregational systems, public
  • Christian worship, the arts, and youth ministry
  • Highly collaborative style
  • Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to build internal and external relationships with an ability to manage by influence
  • Implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives simultaneously
  • Self-starter, able to work independently

What You Will Do
  • Collaborate with the BGA and Dunn Center for Christian Music Studies staff to vision for, implement, and oversee select programs and their activities in accordance with the mission, goals, policies, and procedures for the Black Gospel Archives, Truett Seminary and The School of Music's Dunn Center for Christian Music Studies and the University
  • Collaborate with School of Music faculty, staff, and students to ensure that all programs achieve participation target rates
  • Consult with appropriate BGA staff regarding BGA programs and serve as liaison to Payroll and Human Resources
  • Develop an evaluation framework to assess the strengths of programs and to identify areas for their improvement
  • Provide collaborative troubleshooting with the Prichard Chair in Study of Black Worship, Director of BGA, Research Associates, Baylor Faculty and Staff as challenges arise related to the implementation of the BGA's vision
  • Work with BGA staff to develop ways in which the BGA's event-oriented programs may be regularly translated and adapted to more widely shared resources and insights
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
  • Ability to comply with university policies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
