Job Summary

The Student Academic Success Center (SASC) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position to begin in Fall 2026. This is a 75% teaching / 25% service appointment focused on teaching and supporting student success in foundational chemistry courses.
SASC is a learning community dedicated to supporting student success from matriculation to graduation through an integrated approach that combines instruction in core academic subjects, individualized advising, and social and career development. We offer instruction in gateway science courses, mathematics, leadership, and writing and rhetoric, and we house student support programs such as TRiO McNair Scholars and Student Support Services.
The successful candidate will teach CHEM 1113 (General Chemistry I), CHEM 1133 (General Chemistry II), and ARSC 1460 (Co-seminar in Organic Chemistry I and II), courses designed to prepare students pursuing majors in science, mathematics, engineering, and health-related fields. The position also includes service responsibilities that contribute to departmental and student-support initiatives within SASC. The Student Academic Success Center (SASC), housed within the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) in the Division of Academic Affairs, plays a vital role in advancing CU Boulder's mission to promote undergraduate success, equity, and belonging. The OUE examines the undergraduate experience, assesses student and program outcomes, and leads campus-wide initiatives that strengthen advising, academic support, and student engagement. Within this framework, SASC is dedicated to supporting the academic, personal, and professional aspirations of all students, with particular care for first-generation and historically underserved populations, through small, community-oriented classes that emphasize collaboration, inclusion, and academic rigor. Offering instruction in foundational courses and additional support through programs such as the Study Hub and Instructional Assistants Program, SASC fosters meaningful connections among students, faculty, and staff, empowering learners to thrive in challenging subjects and succeed from matriculation to graduation.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Teaching a total of three undergraduate chemistry courses per semester, which may include General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry co-seminar, or other foundational courses as assigned.
This appointment comprises 75% teaching responsibilities and 25% service activities, including contributions to departmental initiatives and student success programs within the Student Academic Success Center.
Train and mentor undergraduate instructional assistants who work in the classroom.
Attend training in inclusive pedagogy.
Complete early alerts and communicate with department coordinators to support classroom success and college retention.
In addition to preparing for and holding classes [face-to-face], teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students' work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours.

This position will be a 100%-time appointment on a 3-year contract and is eligible for benefits.

What We Require

Prior to the start of the appointment, candidates must have a PhD in Chemistry, or a closely related field. Candidates must have at least two years of university-level teaching experience.
The position start date is August 13, 2026.

What You Will Need

A strong commitment to teaching excellence in undergraduate chemistry, particularly in courses that serve students from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of preparation.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and support students through collaborative learning, academic coaching, and participation in research, internships, or other applied learning experiences.
Capacity to integrate innovative, evidence-based instructional technologies that enhance student engagement and success, and to develop and deliver high-quality chemistry instruction in multiple modalities (including in-person and online formats).
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to contribute to curriculum development, support student success initiatives, and participate actively in departmental and divisional service.
