Job Summary
The DSO & SEVIS Specialist plays a vital role within the International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) office by ensuring institutional compliance with federal immigration regulations and providing direct support to international students and scholars. As a Designated School Official (DSO), this position is responsible for maintaining SEVIS records, processing immigration documents, advising students on visa-related matters, and supporting a wide range of office initiatives that enhance the student experience.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to interpret complex regulatory guidance.
This position requires U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency per federal regulations.
Responsibilities
SEVIS Compliance and Record Management
- Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for the university.
- Create and maintain SEVIS records for F-1, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal immigration regulations.
- Assess and process financial documentation for I-20 issuance and visa eligibility.
- Monitor SEVIS alerts and perform timely updates to ensure continued compliance.
- Advise international students on F-1 regulations and University policies pertaining to I-20 issuance
- Help students understand processes related to, reduced course load, travel, and change of status.
- Refer students to other university resources as needed for academic or personal support.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of U.S. immigration policies and institutional requirements.
- Assist with development and communication of internal ISSS and university policies related to international students.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and internal ISSS working groups (e.g., orientation team, web team, or assessment team).
- Accurately enter and manage student data in SUNAPSIS and PeopleSoft.
- Support document issuance, mailings, reporting, and routine communications.
- Contribute to ISSS strategic goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field plus two years' directly related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required.
Previous experience in an advising, counseling or teaching environment is preferred. Applicants must be US citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents, per federal regulations for SEVIS Designated School Officials.
Preferences
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with two years of directly related experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience maybe acceptable.
- U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency (per federal regulations for SEVIS access).
- Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in managing records and data.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Familiarity with immigration regulations and processes related to F-1 students.
- Experience as a Designated School Official (DSO).
- Knowledge of SUNAPSIS and PeopleSoft student information systems.
- Experience working, studying, or living abroad.
- Proficiency in a language other than English.
- Experience advising or supporting international student populations in a higher education setting.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and intercultural competence.
- Master's degree in a related field and 2 years experience as a DSO, PDSO, RO or ARO and knowledge of USCIS regulations pertaining to F and J visa holders.

Work Schedule Summary: Regular business hours, Monday through Friday 8 am-5 pm. Occasional nights andweekends may be required during events.
