ABOUT THE POSITION

Long Beach Community College District is currently seeking one full-time tenure Automotive Technology Professor commencing with the Fall 2026 semester. This assignment also includes curriculum development, participation in the shared governance process through work in normal professional activities, committee work, and student activities. The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Trades, Technology, and Community Learning campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, on-line or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Faculty positions offer the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience, OR
  • Any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
  • Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master's degree. The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment.

All candidates must demonstrate

Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Recent community college or lower division teaching experience.
  • Expertise in field of course(s) to be taught. Two current, ASE certifications and six years of related work experience.
  • Experience with the maintenance of vehicles utilizing alternative propulsion technologies and fuels including: Electric, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Hybrid, and Biodiesel technologies.
  • Experienceandknowledgeofelectricalsystems,chassisandsuspension,HVAC,dieselenginesand transmissions.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including first-generation, returning adult learners, and multilingual students.
  • Experience with diagnostic software platforms, including OEM scan tools, aftermarket scan tools, and advanced vehicle networking systems (CAN, LIN, FlexRay).
  • Expertise with common mechanic hand tools, pneumatic tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and safe working practices and procedures.
  • Proficient in Online instruction
  • ASE Master Technician and/or Advanced Certification ASE L1,L2, L3 preferred.
  • Working knowledge of All Data, Pro Demand, and other types of automotive information systems.
  • Experience with OEM training programs, policies, and procedures, e.g. Ford Asset, Toyota T-10.
