Job Summary:

The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine invites applications for the position of Director of Child Health Clinical Research, hereinafter referred to as "Director," within the Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology. This academic leadership role will advance the division's research mission by fostering innovation, scholarship, and collaboration in clinical and translational research.

The Director will oversee the research portfolio of the Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology, mentor faculty and trainees, and facilitate the development of high-quality, human-subjects research protocols that address important questions in pediatric anesthesiology and perioperative medicine. The Director will report to The Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology Chief and the Vice Chair of Research Department of Anesthesiology.

The selected individual must maintain a full-time faculty position in the Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology, at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor level. An MD or DO is required as is board certification in anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesia. In their faculty position, the individual, as a practicing member of the Department's and Division's care team model, must continue clinical duties, which include supervising advanced practice providers and learners in a clinical setting. Additionally, the faculty member is expected to maintain his or her academic productivity and scholarship activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide academic leadership for the Pediatric Anesthesiology Division's research enterprise, setting priorities that align with departmental and institutional strategic goals.

Mentor faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students in the design, conduct, analysis, and dissemination of clinical and translational research.

Facilitate the development and approval of human-subjects protocols, ensuring compliance with institutional and federal regulations while promoting methodological rigor.

Supervise the division's research coordinator to ensure effective study execution, data integrity, and regulatory compliance.

Stimulate scholarly productivity by encouraging grant submissions, fostering collaborations within and beyond the Department of Anesthesiology, and supporting dissemination of findings through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international scientific meetings.

Collaborate with the Vice Chair for Research to integrate pediatric anesthesiology projects into larger departmental and institutional initiatives.

Monitor and report on the division's research progress and scholarly impact to the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology and the Vice Chair for Research.

Contribute to a culture of inquiry and innovation that advances the field of pediatric anesthesiology and enhances the academic reputation of the University of Colorado

Qualifications:

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Minimum Qualifications:

Assistant Professor:

Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado
Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Pediatric Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology or equivalent certification body.
Currently appointed or able to be appointed to the University of Colorado School of Medicine faculty.
A strong record of scholarly achievement in clinical or translational research related to anesthesiology, pediatrics, or perioperative medicine.
Evidence of sustained scholarly productivity, including peer-reviewed publications and extramural funding (or clear potential to obtain such funding).

Associate Professor:

Must meet all qualifications for the Assistant Professor rank AND
Must meet the SOM's requirements for Associate Professor

Professor:

Must meet all qualifications for the Assistant Professor rank AND

Must meet the SOM's requirements for Professor

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Established record of independent funding (e.g., NIH, AHRQ, foundation grants) as a principal investigator.
Demonstrated leadership experience with a track record of collaboration and ongoing success in academic research administration or program development.
Specific expertise in pediatric anesthesiology, pediatric critical care, or related perioperative disciplines.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated commitment to mentorship and faculty development in an academic setting.

Experience with protocol development, regulatory compliance, and execution of clinical research studies.

Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to build collaborative research teams.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as

Assistant Professor: $335,000 - $360,000
Associate Professor: $385,000
Professor: $410,000

This position is eligible for a competitive benefits package, leadership stipend, and protected time for leadership responsibilities.

The stipend for this position has been established at $12,000. Additionally, the selected candidate will receive 0.20 FTE of protected time.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
