Job Description

As a key member of the Advancement Communications and Marketing Team, the Writer contributes to the editorial and production functions of the unit. Under the direction of the Sr. Associate Director, Creative Content, the Writer is responsible for the ideation, coordination, and execution of impact- and philanthropy-focused stories. Guided by themes of Boston College's fundraising priorities, the Writer will craft content designed to engage our alumni, parents, and friends in marketing campaigns, donor publications, and numerous other mediums.

The Writer interfaces regularly with vendors, fundraisers, and other constituents, including donors and students as necessary to bring stories from concept to fruition.

The Writer works with a variety of content providers and departments and is responsible for ensuring that copy that is produced meets their expectations as well as the overall communications and marketing goals and standards. The Writer also maintains the production, editorial, and graphic standards ensuring the highest possible quality and consistency in look and feel for all projects, and s/he ensures compliance with style guidelines and visual format requirements from all contributors. The Writer balances edit requests by copy reviewers with the principles of grammar and style and will ensure projects remain on schedule.

Primary Duties:

•Writing 1-2 stories per week for usage in marketing campaigns, the Believe in BC website, Beacon magazine, or Bookmarks magazine
•Learning and applying the Boston College style and institutional voice across various segments, constituencies, and publications
•Working with University Advancement stakeholders and marketing campaign managers to source narratives meeting each fundraising unit's editorial needs
•Coordinating in-person and remote interviews with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends to bring stories from concept to fruition
•Developing editorial plans and story angles for consideration of the Sr. Associate Director and marketing campaign managers
•Writing various copy options and iterating as needed until the final product meets the high quality standards of University Advancement Communications and Marketing
•Occasionally writing copy for usage in emails, social media, video scripts, speeches, and other mediums

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $51,350 to $64,200; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

This position requires a minimum of three years of experience working as a writer, preferably in a development-related environment, with a demonstrated track record of results-driven writing. To be successful, must be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and proven ability to prioritize under pressure and deal with frequent changes. Leads by example and models behaviors consistent with the BC's values, proven experience conceiving, developing, and publishing high-impact editorial content, excellent project and task management skills within a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment, ability to work well withâ€"and take feedback fromâ€"other members of the marketing team. Must be a team player who is highly motivated and dedicated to the goals of advancing higher education and have an appreciation for Jesuit Catholic education and the goals and values of Boston College.

A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in English, journalism or a related field.
