Job Summary/Basic Function:
CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:
The System Administrator (SA) position is responsible for the design, configuration and deployment of systems within the data center for varied environments such as test, conversion and production. The Systems Administrator is responsible for the maintenance and monitoring of the systems within the data center. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational procedures and practices.

This individual is accountable for the following types of systems: Windows servers, SAN / NAS storage systems, monitoring and management systems that support the University infrastructure; Responsibilities on these systems include SA engineering, provisioning, operations, support, maintenance and development to ensure continual innovation.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Install and administer Windows servers 2008, 2012, and 2016 in a physical and virtual environment.
  • Assists in server specifications, procurement, installation, administration and maintenance
  • Tests and deploys new enterprise servers and services
  • Manage NTFS and Share level permissions across multiple windows file share servers
  • Apply patches and updates on recurring schedule
  • Provide Windows OS and application troubleshooting support for various enterprise applications
  • In support of change management within the data center, provides management with high quality documentation on all enterprise Windows systems
  • Monitors all enterprise Windows servers and proactively intervenes to solve problems before they impact customers (ex. monitoring error logs for any critical and warning error messages)
  • Create and maintain documentation of systems processes and procedures
  • Coordinates with vendors and technical support
  • Generates, develops and distributes statistical reports for management
  • Perform backup operations using enterprise backup solution
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

    Minimum Qualifications:
    CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:
    KNOWLEDGE:
    o Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory
    o Experience with administration and maintenance of Windows servers
    o Experience with backup system technologies
    o Experience with monitoring system technologies, NAGIOS system software preferred
    o Experience building VMware systems and clustering technologies

    SKILLS:
    o Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
    o Skill in communicating technical information to others
    o Skill in working in a diverse population
    o Skill in both verbal and written communication
    o Some heavy lifting required

    EDUCATION:
    o Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or directly related field required.
    o Associates degree with equivalent certifications may substitute for Bachelors

    EXPERIENCE:
    o Five to Seven years of directly related experience, including two years of Data Center experience preferred; OR,
    o Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved

    CERTIFICATION / LICENSING:
    o Any relevant industry certifications and/ or licenses a plus

    o This position reports directly to the Lead Systems Administrator

    Salary: $38,976 - $58,464 - Depending on Experience
