As part of the largest college at the University of Michigan, LSA Finance employs more than 70 employees who provide financial and research administration support to over 100 units. We are seeking an experienced research administrator to perform duties related to sponsored pre- and post-award activity. The Research Process Coordinator will provide extensive project account and budgeting support to faculty and administrators at all stages of the grant process. The Research Process Coordinator is a key member of the business offices which serve multiple units. They will serve as a mentor and resource to regional office staff while monitoring grant submissions and being a research and financial liaison for assigned faculty. The Research Process coordinator must have excellent interpersonal skills to be able to partner with colleagues at all levels and within multiple University offices. This position requires a strategic-thinking and proactive individual who will approach the work with a customer service orientation.

Responsibilities*
Salary based on experience.

This position is responsible for coordinating complex portfolios for faculty, including those with extensive collaboration. This will include submitting proposals, along with providing assistance with the preparation of intricate budgets and supporting documentation, coordination as appropriate with internal and external entities, and ensuring timely routing of proposals through the institutional approval process. Maintain appropriate oral and written communications with faculty, LSA administrators, and ORSP and Sponsored Programs for pre- and post- award activity. Post-award activities are primarily financial in nature and will include projecting and updating encumbrances, preparing and reviewing financial transactions including monitoring appropriateness for grant funding and allowability. In addition, the Research Process Coordinator will also provide assistance to faculty in rebudgeting, report preparation, and renewals/extension. Provide mentoring to other members of the business offices as needed. Participate in continuous process improvement efforts. Help document best practice processes and procedures for research administration.

Required Qualifications*
Bachelor degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience, with at least 4 years of relevant research administrative experience and/or or higher level financial activities. Prior experience with research administrative activity, including pre-award experience, post-award management of funds and project budget preparation. Demonstrated experience coordinating multi-project financial reconciliation and analysis, with the ability to track financial activity and funding commitments across various sources and provide cumulative reporting. Ability to interpret and apply guidelines and policies, including Uniform Guidance restrictions and University/LSA sponsored research policies. Progressive knowledge of Excel and other Office products and comfort with changing technology essential. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, as well as exercise good judgment. Collaborate effectively with co-workers and work with a diverse group of customers, providing excellent customer service. Candidates will need to attend to detail, exhibit sound judgment, follow work through to completion, and meet high work standards. Ability to set priorities and work under pressure of managing competing deadlines is required. Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills essential.

Desired Qualifications*
Certified Research Administrator (CRA). Knowledge of UM financial practices, policies and procedures strongly preferred. Familiarity and experience with University administrative and business tools such as Business Objects, MReports and other MPathways systems, and Concur. Experience with eResearch electronic PAF and proposal submission.
