Job Description Summary
The Research Manager will be responsible for day to day management of complex projects conducted with collaborators both internal and external to Penn. The Research Manager, who will also serve as lead on several Water Center projects, will take a leadership role in developing the team's research strategy, writing grants, managing the detailed operations of projects, analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, cultivating close relationships with community partner organizations, drafting/editing research data, and delivering reports outlining effective policy guidance. This position will work with funding administrators and the University Business Office and will play a primary role in other dissemination activities related to project findings.

Job Description

The Water Center at the University of Pennsylvania is a trans-disciplinary applied research center focused on solving today's water challenges. Aligning the University of Pennsylvania's academic resources with water practitioner expertise, the Water Center at Penn combines policy, science and technology to create equitable, resilient and sustainable solutions.

DUTIES:
  • Serve as research lead and advise all aspects of a project's day to day activities and deliverables. Work independently and assist the Director of Research, manage project pipelines within the Water Center including writing project proposals, planning, timelines, data collection, analysis, and outcomes. Work closely with external and internal partners and funders to share findings and cultivate new relationships.
  • Under direction of the business office, project financial management, subgrantee and vendor management, funder interactions and reporting, and leading the generation of high quality deliverables.
  • In collaboration and consultation with the business office, lead Water Center project planning, budgeting, funding strategy and proposal development
  • Collaborate with Water Center leadership to effectively develop WCP strategy to ensure long-term WCP leadership in regional, national, and global water challenges
  • Represent the Water Center at conferences, events, on campus functions and in written materials


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BA/BS in Water Environment-related field and 3 - 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education or experience, is required. Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • 5 years experience managing large specialized project portfolios and multidisciplinary teams of professionals is preferred
  • In-depth familiarity with regional, national, and international technical, regulatory, financial, and governance trends with respect to integrated water management is preferred
  • Commitment to issues of water equity
  • Financial acumen and experience managing budgeting, P&Ls, performance metrics and financial controls
  • Proven success in building and managing successful organizations
  • Ability to negotiate complex and difficult environments
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work non-traditional hours as necessary

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
