Job Summary
Department of Dermatology is seeking an experienced lab manager to manage a research lab that performs basic immunological and genetic work. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall operation of the group that works with clinical trials, animal studies, and basic science research.

Responsibilities*
Responsible for general laboratory maintenance, ordering and inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies, oversee shipping and receiving, monitoring laboratory compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines including related record-keeping.

Responsible for training and supervising lab staff in the proper use and maintenance of equipment and how to perform protocols. Maintains protocol library for lab.

In coordination with the PI, helps write animal protocol; manages all amendments to protocol; maintains compliance with approved protocol; is the animal health contact for the lab; handles billing, ordering, and shortcode management; documents/confirms that animal handlers have been appropriately trained

Organize and maintain lab databases and inventories. This includes performing periodic quality control checks of databases.

Contributes to an ongoing research project. The applicant will be responsible for designing, conducting and troubleshooting experiments, recording and analyzing the resulting data. Experimental duties include, but are not limited to: Animal husbandry and weaning, DNA isolation and genotyping. Harvesting of animal tissues for immunohistochemistry, protein and RNA for analyses.

Co-authors publications and may co-present results with Principal investigator at national meetings and/or conferences.

Other laboratory responsibilities, as they arise, under the direction of the PI.

Required Qualifications*

BA or BS degree in biomedical sciences (or related field)
Previous lab manager experience
Highly responsible, cooperative and able to work independently and with initiative
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills to work with a large, diverse group
Previous experience working with mice.

Intermediate Level:

5 years of experience working in a research setting

Associate level:

3-4 years of experience working in a research setting

Desired Qualifications*

Mouse experience
Experience with animal husbandry, weaning and crossing, harvesting of mouse tissues for various studies,
immunohistochemistry, western blotting, qrt-PCR, cell culture work
