Part-Time Temporary Assistant Librarians
12-month contract, renewable

The Pollak Library at California State University Fullerton, a nationally recognized Hispanic serving institution (HSI), invites applications for part-time Reference and Instruction Librarians to join our dedicated community of librarians, staff, and student assistants. Up to four part-time librarians may be hired for 10-15 hours each.

The Library
The Pollak Library aims to become a model library, nationally recognized for innovative spaces, collections, services, tools, and programs that enable the academic success of our students; promote information literacy skills; fulfill the needs of our academic programs and scholarly activities; facilitate and encourage the systematic and serendipitous acquisition of knowledge; invite collaboration; and help interconnect its vibrant and diverse community of learners and scholars. We serve a total of more than 40,000 students as well as approximately 4,000 faculty and staff. Our website (http://www.library.fullerton.edu) is a vital component of the Library's extensive instruction program and serves as a gateway to resources: including 1.3 million books, government documents, and audiovisual materials; over 50,000 periodicals available electronically or in print; and 200 electronic databases. The staff includes 23 FTE librarians, 35 FTE paraprofessionals, and 80 student assistants.

Position
Provide reference assistance to CSUF students, faculty, staff, and community. Hours will include nights and/or weekends. May provide instruction for CSUF classes in basic electronic resources. Work on specified projects as needed.

Qualifications
Required:

  • Master's degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent institution by the time of appointment.
  • Current reference experience and/or potential including the use of academic electronic resources.
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively.
  • Ability to interact effectively in a multi-cultural environment within and outside the Library.
  • Availability to work days, weeknights and/or weekends.

Preferred:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a strong user-service orientation.
  • Experience and/or potential in developing and teaching effective Library instruction sessions.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

Rank & Salary
The position is a 12-month contract of 8 to 15 hours per week, depending on availability, at the rank of Assistant Librarian. Contract is renewable. Monthly salary is a percentage of the base salary for an Assistant Librarian.
