Responsibilities*
The successful candidate will support epidemiological research projects using large, longitudinal population cohort studies (e.g. the US Health and Retirement Study) and data derived from electronic medical records to investigate social determinants of functional aging trajectories in older cancer survivors.
Design studies of epidemiologic data, including conceptual models and analytic plans.
Conduct statistical analyses to answer epidemiologic research questions and prepare statistical reports, including data tabulation and visualization.
Prepare written and oral presentations of epidemiologic research through writing research articles for submission to peer-reviewed journals and abstract submissions to local and national meetings and conferences.
Participate in, and present at, local and national meetings and conferences.
Assist with project organization.
Required Qualifications*
PhD or equivalent degree in Epidemiology, Health Behavior, Biostatistics, Public Health or a related field. A track record of peer-reviewed publication of scholarly work related to PhD thesis, or in process, is required. The successful candidate will be highly creative and self-motivated to produce high-impact manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and develop and submit NIH or similar grant applications.
The successful candidate will have experience in the management and use of complex longitudinal survey data, analysis of longitudinal data structures, advanced use of statistical software (Stata, SAS, or R, and interest in learning new software), and strong oral and written scientific communication skills.
Desired Qualifications*
It is strongly desirable for the applicant to have interest and expertise in social epidemiology, methods for longitudinal studies of cognitive and physical functional aging outcomes, and cancer survival and aging.
Additional Information
The Research Fellow position consists of an initial appointment for one year, and is renewable for a second year, contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funding. Compensation (salary and benefits) will be offered according to University of Michigan and NIH guidelines.
