Description

The Department of Performing Arts at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a lecturer position in Public Speaking beginning August 2021.

The Department of Performing Arts houses the Theatre Division and the Music Division, which includes instruction in Public Speaking. Public Speaking is a service course that is required by a number of majors at UTC.

This position will teach at least 24 student credit hours (8 classes) each academic year. The course load will consist primarily of teaching Public Speaking courses which are required for a number of majors at UTC. Summer teaching, either online or face to face, might be expected of this position. This position is not tenure-track but comes with the rights and benefits of full-time university employees. There may be minimal expectations of research and/or service.

This position is located in the Theatre Division of UTC's Department of Performing Arts, which is part of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will possess the following requirements:

  • Masters Degree in Speech Communications or closely-related field.

  • Proven experience in fields such as public speaking and business communications.

  • Ability to teach [LS3]introductory/advanced courses in public speaking.

  • Candidates should also be willing to engage in a variety of instructional modalities, including online instruction.

  • Willingness to engage in assisting the UTC campus in its ability to reach additional goals as specified in UTC's Strategic Plan, including a demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion.[LS4]

  • Preference will be given to individuals with over 3 years of experience teaching in higher education, those with online teaching expertise and those with a terminal degree.
