Position Purpose:
LEAD - Leadership Excellence and Academic Development - The LEAD Scholars Program is a four-year program for first-generation college students (students whose parents did not attend college) focused on academics, community engagement, and service. Incoming students participate in an intensive orientation the week before the school year begins to ensure a smooth transition from high school to college, and continue through their senior year with leadership opportunities, internships, and other resources. The program provides an integrated, collaborative, and strategic approach to academic support and retention services for first-generation students.

Working with the Director and Assistant Director of the LEAD Scholars Program, and the Administrative Associate of LEAD, Honors and Fellowships, this Program Coordinator will assist with the implementation of a new grant that will allow for growth of LEAD in terms of the number of students served and the longitudinal programs offered. With a special focus on logistics and administration in support of our growing population of first-year students, this Program Coordinator will assist with the recruitment and selection of LEAD participants, and the planning and implementation of LEAD Week, an intensive orientation for new students that takes place at the beginning of the school year. Additionally, this program coordinator will plan and implement student programs and family outreach activities, assist with the logistics and administration of LEAD courses, and assist with advising of prospective and current students. Additionally, this position will assist with website and social media maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

In collaboration with the LEAD staff, plan and coordinate educational and social programming for all LEAD Scholars with a special emphasis on first-year students
Manage program correspondence/announcements in collaboration with the LEAD staff
Provide LEAD representation at campus and off-campus events
Assist with family engagement programs and activities
Develop a multilingual family newsletter to help families better support their children, especially first-year students 2. Course Planning and Logistics (20%)
Assist the LEAD staff in the planning and logistics of courses offered in the LEAD Scholars Program with an emphasis on first-year courses
Assist with coordination of LEAD instructors and course schedules 3. Assist with Participant Selection and LEAD New Student Programs (20%)
Assist with recruitment of prospective LEAD participants, including development of recruitment materials, participation at events and assisting prospective students
Assist with administrative aspects of participant selection
Assist with coordination and implementation of LEAD Week for 75+ participants annually
Assist in scheduling facilities, and coordinate courses and programs for LEAD Week
Assist in hiring, train and supervise student workers to ensure implementation of LEAD Week
Be present to welcome, orient and support new students throughout the week
Facilitate programs and workshops 4. Assist with student advising (20%)
Assist with student advising with an emphasis on first-year students
Effectively refer students to on-campus and off-campus resources
Be knowledgeable of university policy, resources, and other appropriate information 5. Website, Technology and Social Media Management (5%)
Use T4 web content management system to assist with maintenance of the LEAD Scholars Program website
Help with coordinating program communication via social media sites 6. Other duties as assigned (5%)
Handle other duties and projects as assigned
Assist with management of budget
Act as liaison with other offices, students, staff, and off campus contacts
Represent the LEAD Scholars Program to students, faculty, staff, and the general public
Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends GENERAL GUIDELINES Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services
Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices
Maintains contact with students and solicits feedback for improved services
Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives
Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow
Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions
Assists with the preparation and of reports as requested and required
Assists in the development and implementation of guidelines to support the functions of the unit

Provides Work Direction:
Supervise student employees

Experience with program and course planning and coordination
Experience with Excel spreadsheets
Experience with (or willingness to learn) the TerminalFour (T4) web content management system
Experience with social media
Those with fluency in Spanish or other languages are encouraged to apply

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelors degree
Two years of program coordination experience in higher education or equivalent combination of education and experience
