Job Description

Postdoctoral Research Fellow:

A postdoctoral position in condensed matter theory is available at Boston college with the start date of August 2021. The successful candidate mainly works with Prof Xiao Chen, and interactions with other faculty, postdocs and students, as well as the experimentalists, are encouraged. This postdoctoral position supports two years of funding, with the possibility of extension to a third year upon mutual agreement. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.

The candidates are expected to submit a CV with publication list, a research statement, and arrange three to four letters of recommendation. Applications received before February 1, 2021 will be assured full consideration, but we will continue to receive applications until the position is filled.

The physics department in Boston college has a strong record in condensed matter physics and facilitates a highly collaborative research environment in both fundamental and applied branches of solid state physics. Recent research topics of particular interest to us include quantum non-equilibrium dynamics, quantum criticality, topological phases of matter. Both analytical and numerical techniques are employed in research.

The appointment is typically viewed as preparatory for a full-time academic and/or research career (e.g Research Associate or Senior Research Associate, depending on successful performance as a PostDoc & available funding).
The appointment is not for a clinical training program.
The appointee works under the supervision of a senior faculty member.
The appointee has the freedom and is expected, to publish the results of his or her research or scholarship during the period of the appointment and/or to have publications in press or under review during this period.

Requirements

Degree Requirement: Appointee recently awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., Sc.D., M.D.) in an appropriate field
