Division/College: College of Engineering

Location: Boston Main Campus

Full-time/Part-time: Full Time

Responsibilities:

Postdoctoral Research Associate - Optical Engineering:

The Computational Optics and Translational Imaging (COTI) Lab at Northeastern University is looking for a postdoctoral research associate with strong background in optical instrumentation development to develop innovative translational near-infrared spectroscopic and tomographic imaging systems and clinical applications.

This postdoctoral research associate is expected to contribute to two ongoing research projects: 1) developing a diffuse optical tomography breast imaging system to detect early stage breast cancers, and 2) developing low-cost portable optical diagnostic tools for resource-poor regions. In both projects, he/she will be responsible for designing, testing and optimizing the optical imaging hardware, develop algorithms and software to process data, and validate the imaging system performance with phantom and human clinical studies. This candidate is expected to co-supervise graduate students, and collaborate with clinicians and other collaborators of the lab.

Qualifications:

The candidate should have a PhD degree in biomedical/electrical engineering, computer science/engineering, physics, or related fields. This candidate should have a strong background in instrumentation design, particularly with experience on building optical imaging systems. Experience in near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), diffuse optical tomography (DOT), fluorescence imaging and other biomedical optics research are preferred. Hands on experience with spectrometers, cameras, optical fibers, optical and optomechanical components are desired. Experience in programming such as MATLAB/C/C++/ FORTRAN/Java will be favorably considered. Good writing and communication skills are required. The candidate is expected to be highly creative and self-motivated in the research and is capable of working in a collaborative environment.
