The University of Michigan Transplant Center is home to the first, largest, and most advanced kidney transplant program in the state, and among the leading programs in the nation. We also have one of the oldest and most active pancreas programs in the country. Kidney transplantation allows people with end stage kidney failure to avoid or eliminate the need for dialysis and prolong life. Pancreas transplantation is most often performed to improve the quality of life for people with Type 1 diabetes mellitus.

This is a (24-hour) part-time position-working days of week will vary.

Responsibilities*
As a Medical Patient Services Associate, your primary role is to provide support to Physicians, Registered Nurses, and Midlevel Providers (MLP). In this role you will be responsible for:
  • Coordinate patient appointments and subsequent care for all new Kidney and Pancreas transplant patients seen in the Taubman Clinic. Coordinate the Evaluation, Pre-Kidney and Post-Kidney Clinic appointments for five Outreach Clinics located in Kalamazoo, Lansing, Midland, Rochester Hills, Muskegon and other clinics as needed.
  • Check in patients and make follow up appointment in Cadence for Outreach clinics
  • Responsible for workflow for a multi-disciplinary clinical team during Tuesday and Wednesday Kidney Evaluation Clinic in Taubman.
  • Responsible for similar workflow at five Outreach clinics. Travel will be required monthly to the Kidney Outreach clinics. Additional compensation will be offered.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the Offsite Outreach Clinics (Kidney Evaluation, Pre Kidney and Post Kidney) and Taubman Evaluations and clinics to cohesive and efficient work flow.
  • Schedule follow up visits for Outreach patients, Send AVS and patient itinerary
  • Maintain Outreach Clinics In-basket and act on accordingly.
  • Prep all paperwork associated with Taubman and Outreach clinic visits, including and not limited to assembling binders, imaging documents, faxing and mailings.
  • Coordinate hotel reservations during overnight stays during inclement weather and order lunches for staff during Outreach clinics.
  • Work collaboratively with ACU Manager and ACU Medical Director to establish protocols/procedures to maintain efficient work flow for staff, faculty and patients.
  • Be able to assist patient who are having difficulties locating Outreach clinics.

Required Qualifications*
  • High School diploma plus 2 -3 years of experience
  • Able to drive to Outreach clinics with a minimum of 3-5 times every month.
  • Good Driving Record
  • Ability to work well as part of a team, share resources, and adapt to change in a positive, constructive manner.
  • Excellent typing, data entry, and general computer skills; familiarity with common office programs such as Word and Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication, conflict resolution, and customer service skills. Consistent use of correct spelling and grammar.
  • Effective time management and problem-solving skills, as evidenced by ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Documented history of excellent punctuality and attendance.

Physical Requirements

You will be required to do some moderate standing and walking, as well as lift, position, push, and/or transfer patients.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
