Job Description:

The Talent Search program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to and complete their postsecondary education. The program publicizes the availability of financial aid and assist participants with the postsecondary application process. Talent Search also encourages persons who have not completed education programs at the secondary or postsecondary level to enter or reenter and complete postsecondary education. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education.





SUMMARY OF POSITION



Under the leadership of the TRiO Director, the Academic Tutor will be responsible for assisting students in enhancing their skills in math and science related subject areas that will prepare 9th -12th grade students for their current academic classes, MCAS, and the SAT/ACT exams.





DUTIES



  • Provide tutorial assistance as assigned (in-person or virtually).
  • Maintain accurate and current documentation concerning student contact and progress.
  • Log and input student contacts into the program database and systems (Blumen, Google products etc.)
  • Access school related systems (Aspen) for student schedules and contact information
  • Assist students in the development of study skills necessary for successful completion of courses
  • Maintain contact with staff and High School teachers as required.
  • Refer students to Talent Search staff for information or assistance with issues that may arise related to college planning, career exploration and more.
  • Conduct tutoring sessions in designated areas for scheduled time periods (in-person or virtually).
  • Attend relevant training and webinars (if applicable).
  • Other duties as assigned by Director and TS staff.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in area of subject matter.
  • Familiarity with Public High School systems, culture, and environment
  • Prior teaching or tutoring experience.
  • Experience working with TRIO students who are first generation, low-income students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of TRiO programs and targeted populations

Additional Information:

Work is normally performed in a general classroom setting in-person or virtually.



Salary: $30.03 per hour (not to exceed 18.50 hours per week,) non-benefited, grant-funded.
