Job Description

SUMMARY
Responsible for coordination and monitoring of total health care program for assigned student with multiple disabilities including complex health care needs

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for daily administration of medications to Campus School student which includes obtaining appropriate medical orders from parents and physicians and ensures that appropriate dosages/pharmacy bottles are stored in a locked medical area.

Responsible for recognition, knowledge and treatment of specific seizure disorders, lacerations, acute illness, nausea/vomiting, human bites, anaphylaxis, chest physical therapy, suctioning, nebulizer treatments, gastronomy feedings, mickey button maintenance, or any emergency.

Provides health education and training to teachers and support staff to ensure that medical protocols are in place in the event of an emergency. This includes, food allergies, seizure control, specific disabilities, adverse medication side effects, G-tube feedings & replacements, infection control, unusual precautions, exposure to blood borne pathogens according to OSHA standards, safety, first aid, CPR training.

Completion of health care assessment and attendance at Individual Education Plan meetings as well as attend transdisciplinary team meetings or other pertinent meetings relevant to implementing students' Individual Education Plan.

Attend in-service trainings.

Responsible for following daily classroom schedules and specific programs for group and individual activities for each student as directed by Master Teacher.

During school hours when the assigned student is not present, assist Master Teacher with scheduled classroom activities or assist with nursing department assignments as directed by the Assistant Program Directors.

Assist Master Teacher with organization and maintenance of classroom and therapeutic
supplies and equipment.

Accompany student to therapy sessions as needed.

Communicate effectively with students, staff and parents.

Works in collaboration with Program Nurses and Nurse Practitioner Consultant in developing health care policies and procedures and student medical care

Supervises University nursing clinical students while on their assigned as requested by Program Nurses.

Follow up regarding student absences.

Supports the mission of the Boston College Campus School

Requirements

Minimum of one year experience working in pediatric nursing with students with special health care needs

Related Work Experience

Registered Nurse, Bachelors Degree preferred
CPR
CPI
First Aid
