Job Description

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), located in Reno, Nevada is seeking applicants for a Nursing Simulation Technician.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years of experience working in a clinical skills lab, simulation labs, or health care environment.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist certification or completion within the first semester of hire.
  • Work a flexible schedule (early mornings, late evenings or weekends, may be required).

    Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, the Simulation Technician (ST) will perform duties independently related to installation, maintenance, upkeep, and operation of Simulation Manikins, simulation rooms, and debriefing rooms. The ST is responsible for simulating medical conditions and responses used in nursing courses. The ST sets up, operates, and manipulates medical, multimedia, computer, and other related equipment used for patient care simulation exercises in nursing courses to create a virtual healthcare setting. The ST works with the nursing faculty to facilitate standardized participant simulated patient learning experiences for nursing students at all levels of learning. In addition, the ST will act as a technical resource to faculty, staff, and students in all aspects of simulation equipment and technology.
  • Maintains the Nursing Simulation lab in support of instructional programs; installs, relocates, and provides connectivity to existing networks as appropriate.
  • Programs patient care simulators, prepares scenario props, and creates scenario moulage to model physiological responses to the clinical and skill objectives and specifications identified by instructional staff.
  • Assists faculty with scenarios and operation of simulators, including during all simulations.
  • Coordinates with faculty on simulation choices and simulation implementation.
  • Restores laboratory to pre-scenario conditions, after each scenario.
  • Installs, operates, and maintains updates, and repairs or oversees repairs to equipment and apparatus as it relates to computer technology and the simulation lab.
  • Operates instructional media equipment such as video cameras, multimedia computer systems, and audio and video distribution systems specific to the simulation lab.
  • Maintains inventory, coordinates orders with the Nursing Lab Coordinator, and stocks supplies, materials, and equipment in the simulation lab.
  • Coordinates with the college information technology, simulator and simulation specific technology support, faculty, staff, and management to ensure the smooth operation of all simulation technologies.
  • Collaborates with clinical coordinator and nursing faculty to schedule appropriate simulation experiences for students.
  • Equipment setup and breakdown includes setting up patient simulators, task trainers, hospital equipment, supplies, and audiovisual equipment

    Ability to:
  • Utilize analytical problem-solving skills to resolve issues related to human patient simulation scenarios.
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair and/or support the operation of computers (PC or MAC), peripheral equipment, audio-visual/multi-media equipment and networks as it specifically relates to the simulation devices.
  • Work with Microsoft office programs - Excel, Word, Power Point.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with Nursing faculty, Laboratory Coordinator I.T department, staff, and students.
  • Provide technical support and instruction to students and faculty.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Give clear and concise instructions.
  • Take initiative and work independently.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Develop and implement a maintenance plan for the equipment and computers in Nursing Simulation Lab.
  • Procure, install, operate, maintain, and repair Human Patient Simulation and associated computer equipment.
  • Learn the characteristics of new equipment and update skills to adapt to changing technology.

    Salary and Benefits Information:

    Salary: $49,076 - $61,345 Initial salary placement will be dependent on education level and years of experience.
