Network Engineer, Technical Services–Requisition # 18000000OB

Under the direction of the Senior Network Engineer, this position will design and implement computer networks by focusing on high-level designs and planning. This position will select the appropriate data communications through integrating LAN, WAN, Internet, and intranet components and configuring them to meet user's needs.

Responsibilities include:
  • Implementation & Support: Installing, configuring, and implementing new Wi-Fi equipment for building renovations and new construction; Providing support for all aspects of the campus network including; Switches, Routers, DHCP, DNS, Network Access Control, Firewalls, Load Balancers and all other appropriate network equipment; Providing direction and guidance for existing and emerging technologies along with participating in complex and mission critical technical analysis.
  • Monitoring, Troubleshooting, and Customer Support: Monitoring the Wi-Fi network for anomalies and responds appropriately; Utilizing a variety of network monitoring and troubleshooting tools to remedy customer issues; Working closely with project management and technical teams to support successful deployment of new applications; Updating ticket tracking database with pertinent information.
  • Project Management: Working with IT Project Manager on large implementations of applications for user community; Managing small projects including planning, scheduling, communicating progress, and closing a project within a functional area.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent related experience. Must have 3 years' experience in networking environment. Experience in higher education setting is required. Must have knowledge of networking principles including, switching, routing, LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, and Firewalls; knowledge of network hardware and cabling standards. Must have effective skills in research and analysis, project planning and implementation; strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, and vendors; effective customer service skills to engage customer, resolve issues with a sense of urgency, and communicate in a timely manner; excellent decision-making, time-management, and planning skills; customer-centric approach to problem-solving. Must have the ability to be a self-starter and motivated to move projects forward; ability to coach and mentor staff and develop the human capital of the organization; ability to manage competing priorities in a highly demanding environment. Occasional nights and weekends are required.
