Job Description

The responsibilities of this position are to carry out the Office of Student-Athlete Academic Services' mission of supporting the Boston College academic community and Athletics Department in our mission to pursue student-athlete excellence, student-athlete formation, and a just society by remaining committed to integrity, ethics, and honesty.

The Learning Specialist/Academic Counselor (LS/AC) will deliver comprehensive academic services to Football & Men's Basketball student-athletes by facilitating educational, personal, and career development services. The position will work collaboratively with colleagues to develop individualized academic plans, coordinate study table, and tutorial sessions. The position will travel with assigned athletic teams as needed and appropriately communicate with coaches and administrators.

The position will provide direct support to student-athletes with learning disabilities and other academic challenges. Through the development of individualized academic plans, the position will provide compensatory strategies and the goal of developing independent learners.

The position will assist with educational assessments, evaluations, and testing referrals while interpreting diagnostic reports and assisting student-athletes with obtaining approved accommodations through the Connors Family Learning Center.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $53,900 to $67,400; salary commensurate with relevant experience.



Requirements

Master's degree required; Counseling, Education, Higher Education Administration, Sports Administration or related field.

1-2 years of experience required, 3-4 years preferred; Teaching, Higher education, academic advising, counseling, academic support services or related field.

Demonstrated ability to work with academically challenged students and students with learning disabilities; Strong interpersonal skills; Ability to communicate both orally and in writing to various audiences; Strong computer skills; Must be proficient in Microsoft Office; Knowledge of NCAA and Atlantic Coast Conference rules and requirements; Ability to work evenings, weekends and travel as needed with athletic team; Ability to effectively interact with a diverse population of students, coaches, staff, and university administrators; Must possess the ability to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with student-athletes.
