Lab Coordinator - Extended Reality Support

About the Opportunity

Job Summary:

The Extended Reality Lab Support Coordinator will assist with the day-to-day operations of Northeastern University's College of Arts, Media & Design (CAMD) Immersive Media Lab and Usability Lab. This role will assist the Immersive Media and Usability Lab Manager by training faculty and students on technology in labs related to virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), VR 360 cameras, user testing, eye tracking, biometric devices, mobile AR/VR development, and related software platforms. They will also help maintain service accounts in both labs. This position is expected to learn new lab-related technology, test it, and deploy it in labs on an ongoing basis. They will work with the manager of the labs on matters involving technology issues between the college and university. They will help purchase, track, and update all hardware, software, licensing, and service accounts inventories.

The Extended Reality Lab Support Coordinator will assist students and faculty with research, instruction, hardware, and software. As such, ongoing problem solving of both straightforward and complex issues presented by specialized technology is expected, including the maintenance of hardware and software in these labs. This position will create tutorials for technology in the labs and assist with the creation of an XR knowledge bank. They will aid the supervision of work study students, assist with the creation and maintenance of schedules for work study students, and coordinate user testing. They will also help maintain lab booking calendars for student and faculty reservations. They will also provide support for special events that rely on CAMD's XR technology.

This position will perform other related projects/duties as needed. This position is required to work outside regular working hours on an infrequent basis as needed for classes, student project team meetings, events, maintenance, training, supervision, admissions, and outreach.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in Computers Science, Computer Information Systems, or a similar field; or have 3 years of experience in a similar client-facing or customer-centered position. The candidate must have strong problem-solving, communication, and media literacy skill sets. Candidates are not expected to have expertise in all AR/VR/Biometrics technologies, but the willingness to learn new technologies and become a subject matter expert on said technology is crucial. These technologies include eye trackers, physiological sensors, and data collection; AR/VR headsets, game engines (Unity or Unreal), personal computing hardware and software (Windows, MAC, Linux, Adobe Creative Suite); and 360 camera operation. This position will often work with other CAMD Media Studios Organization labs, so a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively is important.
