Responsibilities
The Department of Human Performance at Minnesota State University, Mankato is accepting applications for a tenure-track teaching position in the Wellness Coaching and Disease Prevention master's program. The candidate will teach and coordinate the Wellness Coaching and Disease Prevention MS program and teach undergraduate Exercise Science/graduate Exercise Physiology courses. Candidate will develop and maintain a research agenda, advise students, and engage in service.
  • A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twelve (12) credits per semester of instruction.
  • The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.
  • May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.
  • The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
  • All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (see Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).


Required Qualifications
  • Doctorate or terminal degree in Exercise Physiology/Science, Kinesiology, or related field. (Conferred on an official transcript and received in Human Resources by August 19, 2019.)
  • Completion of an International Consortium for Health & Wellness Coaching approved training program.


Preferred Qualifications
  • National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
  • Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate experiential learning into coursework.
  • Demonstrated preparation to teach, advise, and support a wide variety of students.
  • Demonstrated training and experience appropriate to teach applied courses at the graduate level.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach the courses listed below, along with additional courses depending on the departments needs.
  • Course list: Concepts of fitness, basic statistics & research design, introduction to exercise science (undergraduate level), Group Fitness.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with faculty and staff in a collegial and cooperative manner.
  • Demonstrated commitment to department activities and university service such as curriculum committee and other matters.
  • Demonstrated potential to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level with the following areas: Principles of Wellness Coaching (theory and skills application), Behavior Change Foundations and Strategies, Exercise is Medicine, Internship and Capstone in Wellness.
  • Experience with advising and mentoring students.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology in the classroom.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver online courses.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide synchronous experiences (videoconferencing is vital in developing 'coaching' skills) in online course work.


Additional Information

The Department of Human Performance offers undergraduate coursework in exercise science, sport management, health and physical education teacher education, and developmental adapted physical education teacher education. Graduate programs offered include exercise physiology, athletic training, sport management, sport and exercise psychology, developmental adapted physical education teacher education, and physical education. The department offers the Wellness Coaching and Disease Prevention MS program in collaboration with the departments of Family Consumer Science and Health Science.
