Compensation and Benefits


Anticipated Hiring Salary: $2,912 per month

Full Classification Salary Range: $2,912 - $4,592 per month
  • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.


The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

The HR Administrative Assistant performs a variety of routine to moderately complex clerical support to the Human Resources and Payroll management/staff. Administrative duties include: setting up and maintaining office procedures related to multiple Human Resources and Payroll functions; developing documents involving the use of software features such as spreadsheets, charts, tables and graphics; performing administrative duties and project work and coordination related to programs, policies, and procedures. The incumbent will be responsible for understanding the basic workflow of the benefits, employment, recruitment, classification, compensation, and Payroll processes, and other HR functions.

The incumbent serves as the first point for the Human Resources Department and will interact with a variety of campus and community constituents. Customer service responsible include: working with students, faculty, and staff to assist them or resolve problems; serving as a resource to the public and university constituents; networking to build campus relationships to coordinate work and projects in an accurate and efficient manner.

Day to day work is performed independently and under general direction with minimal supervision. Work is supervised in terms of overall accomplishments. Incumbents are expected to set their own priorities. Assignments are varied requiring the use of judgment and discretion in interpreting and applying university, system-wide, and department policies and procedures.

Key Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of multiple HR functions and processes strongly preferred
  • Prior administrative support experience in a Human Resources Department in a large, complex organization preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices
  • Fluency in using standard office software packages
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, composure, and tact in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Education and Experience
