Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary: $4,693 per month

Full classification Salary Range: $4,693 to $8,489 per month

This is a full-time, probationary, exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Government Relations, the incumbent performs highly complex, confidential and analytical support that requires a thorough knowledge of University policies, procedures, and operations and an understanding of the University's role within the community.

The incumbent serves as the secondary liaison between the university and all local, state and government officials, visiting dignitaries, university partners, the CSU Office of Advocacy and State Relations in Sacramento, and the CSU Office of Federal Relations in Washington, D.C. The incumbent carries out project management associated with government relations that requires extensive research and analysis.

The incumbent also provides comprehensive administrative support for the Executive Director, effectively managing the Executive Director's calls, calendar, files, email and travel arrangements, and schedules and attends meetings in consultation with the Executive Director. Additionally, the incumbent assists with administrative support for general office operations in the Office of the President.

  • Demonstrated understanding of political processes (local, state and federal).
  • Demonstrated understanding of the relationship of public higher education in California to both state and federal funding processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse and broad range of stakeholders and to exercise diplomacy in all interactions.
  • Strong organizational skills with high levels of attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills.
  • Assists in managing campus-based events in which elected and appointed government officials and community leaders participate to ensure appropriate protocols are followed.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in political science/government, public administration, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in government or higher education office.

This will require the filing of a Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis and the completion of training within six (6) months of assuming office and every two (2) years thereafter.
