ABOUT THE COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES AND HUMAN SERVICES

In planning for a doubling in size of its population due to state and regional demand, the College of Professional Studies was divided into three colleges in 2014, which included the establishment of the College of Health Sciences and Human Services (CHSHS). The synergy of the Affordable Care Act, coupled with the regional demand for improving health and human services in a historically underserved area, has rendered CHSHS as the fastest growing college in CSUMB. The university is located in a very strategic location, dividing the wealth of the Monterey Peninsula and the agricultural bedrock of the U.S., the Salinas Valley and region. The newly formed CHSHS' mission is to "Strengthen the quality of life of the diverse communities with whom we live, work and serve through collaborative and community-informed education, research, training and service." Its vision is to "create health, fitness, and well-being in a socially just environment that honors equality, inclusiveness, cultural responsiveness, and active community engagement." Our university and college mission and vision, combined with regional need and strategic location, provide the driving force for CHSHS to serve as the regional training hub for the professional health and human services workforce.
