Director of Field Education (Campus-Based)

Simmons University is looking for a Director of Field Education to join the School of Social Work. Reporting to the Director of the School of Social Work, the Director of Field Education will facilitate the growth and expansion of field placement and work-based learning opportunities for approximately 400 campus based MSW students annually. From building relationships with community partners to ensuring that field placements meet all accreditation standards, the Director will play a critical role in integrating real-world experiences into the educational foundation of Simmons's MSW students.

The ideal candidate will be student-focused, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. This is a full-time twelve-month administrative position with faculty rank at a level commensurate with a candidate's experience (Associate or Professor of Practice). The Director will serve in a leadership role and is a member of the Director's leadership team.

The hands-on curriculum integrates education and practice with social justice values, multicultural perspectives and fieldwork placements. The SSW offers degrees at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels (BSW, MSW, PhD). The MSW degree is offered through both our traditional campus-based program and via our innovative online platform, SocialWork@Simmons (SW@S).

Primary Responsibilities
  • Promote innovative approaches to developing new, and foster existing, relationships with community partners in field education;
  • Oversee the recruitment, approval, and assessment of all field placements;
  • Recruit, hire and supervise a team of, on average, 17-20 Field Liaisons (advisors);
  • Coordinate the assessment of student learning, ensuring assessments are in accordance with Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS);
  • Develop and teach the Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI), preparing new field instructors to supervise students;
  • Monitor and assess field sites;
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Field Placement program including oversight of budget, personnel and technology;
  • Review and revise Student Field and Field Liaison Manuals, ensuring alignment between campus and online platform policies and procedures;
  • Participate in SSW Curriculum and Assessment Committees;
  • Host and facilitate the Field Advisory Board;
  • Serve as the primary editor for The Field Educator, Simmons' premier online journal for Field Education;
  • Other responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications
  • Master's in Social Work from a CSWE accredited college or university and LICSW required;
  • A PhD, DSW, or doctorate in an allied field preferred;
  • A minimum of 8 years post MSW experience in agency social work practice, including field instruction of MSW students;
  • Experience in program administration; additional experience in field education administration preferred;
  • Excellent communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills with a proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Well organized, with excellent skills in customer service, time and project management, creative problem-solving and innovation;
  • Demonstrated commitment and capacity for building relationships and collaborating with diverse stakeholder groups (student, faculty, staff and community professionals).
