About the Office of Residential Life
The mission of the Office of Residential Life is to create safe, inclusive, and well maintained living communities. We engage our community members in opportunities to develop spiritually, socially, and academically in the Jesuit, Catholic tradition of the University. Under the leadership of the Associate Vice President, Director of Residential Education, and Director of Operations, the department consists of 40 professional staff members, 24 graduate positions, 192 resident assistants, and additional student employees.

Basic Function and Responsibility
Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and Special Projects, the Director of Housing Operations is responsible for the leadership and supervision of the Boston College Housing Operations team and as well as for the planning, direction, and assessment of all university housing operations and facilities. Along with the Associate Vice President and Director of Residential Education, The Director of Housing Operations serves as a member of the Residential Life leadership team.
Through the supervision of three direct reports including the Associate Director of Housing Operations, Assistant Director of Housing Assignments and Occupancy, and Assistant Director of Facilities, as well as the indirect supervision of an additional 10 professional and 3 graduate student staff, the Director strives to create a safe and welcoming environment for 7,600 undergraduate students by ensuring the effective operation of 29 residence halls.

As a member of the Residential Life leadership team, the Director manages performance, provides feedback and coaching, evaluates, and devises performance improvement plans for the Housing Operations team. In collaboration with the Associate Director of Selection, Development, and Formation, the Director of Housing Operations will strategize around staff training and development for the Housing Operations team, as well as around cross-training for the Residential Education staff.
The Director oversees all university residence hall operations, including assignments and enrollment; move-in and move-out processes; facilities management, including building maintenance, furnishings, warehouse and inventory; new and existing service contracts; vendor relations; off-campus housing; summer housing operations, including student housing and conference housing; access and key controls in residence halls; and all technology for the department, including a housing management application and all website content and maintenance.

The Director of Housing Operations coordinates all residence hall space needs and all maintenance and renovation projects and works directly with the AVP in the design and construction phases of all residence hall construction and renovation projects.
The Director is responsible for projecting annual residence hall revenue and room rates, as well as evaluating and assessing departmental expenditures and for the daily oversight of Peoplesoft Financial functions and processing for the department.
The Director is also a departmental liaison with relevant campus partners, including Space Management, Facilities Services, Housekeeping, Grounds Maintenance, Real Estate, Transportation and Parking, Admissions and Enrollment Management, Athletics, Risk Management, and Information Technology.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $87,900 to $109,900; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field
  • Minimum of five full time years of post-graduate Residential Life, Housing Operation, or related student affairs experience
  • Minimum of five years of experience serving as a direct supervisor with a demonstrated track record of success in supervision of professional staff
  • Openness to Jesuit values and mission and the traditions and heritage of Boston College
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrated understanding of student development theory
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
