Director, Cross Cultural and Gender Center (Administrator II)

The Cross Cultural and Gender Center exists to contribute significantly to the continued development of a safe and welcoming environment for the Fresno State community. Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, the Director provides direct oversight for all aspects of the Cross Cultural and Gender Center (CCGC) and the President's Commission on Human Relations and Equity including, but not limited to: African American Programs and Services, American Indian Programs and Services, Asian Pacific Islander Programs and Services, Cross Cultural Programs and Services, Gender Programs and Services, Latino/a Programs and Services, LGBTQ+ Programs and Services, Women's Campus Connection and the President's Cultural Competency Certificate Program.

The Director is responsible for developing recommendations involving broad areas of policy formulation and complex administrative action and for implementing such recommendations when adopted. The Director independently determines the level of services and other resources to be provided students.

Compensation:
The salary is competitive and is negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position with an attractive benefits package which includes but is not limited to: a vacation accrual rate of 16 hours per month; 12+ paid holidays; excellent choice of medical, dental and vision insurance, long term disability coverage, life insurance; and retirement benefits.

Position Summary:
Major duties of the position include:

  • In consultation with the Associate Vice President, the Director develops and implements strategic planning, assessment, budget, and fund development for the center
  • Provides leadership for the National Coalition Building Institute Team (NCBI)
  • Manages and analyzes Cross Cultural and Gender Center programmatic needs; provides daily oversight of all Cross Cultural and Gender Center staff and center programs
  • Directs program development and implementation; establishes program priorities, monitors progress toward achieving program goals, and conducts assessments to evaluate program effectiveness
  • Develops, implements, and leads diversity and cultural competency trainings and mediation/conflict resolution services; consults with and provides relevant training and support for faculty and staff to enhance programs and services
  • Manages center staff and student development
  • Collaborates and networks with local cultural community organizations and leadership
  • Actively represents the center and the council to the campus; collaborates with faculty and staff to establish meaningful campus and community involvement in building cultural competency; supports students and the campus in providing an inclusive and accepting campus environment
  • Represents the Cross Cultural and Gender Center and the President's Commission on Human Relations and Equity to the public, media, and off-campus organizations
  • Performs professional work involving independent judgment, good communication skills, and sound fiscal management skills
  • Directs the Campus National Coalition Building Institute team and conducts training sessions each fall and spring for campus constituencies, including faculty, staff, students, and the general community
  • Serves as chair of the President's Commission on Human Relations and Equity
  • Provides consultation and training to the president and campus senior leaders
  • Meets with and supports faculty and staff on issues related to culture and gender Provides leadership and guidance to coordinators of the CCGC Programs and Services Performs related duties as required

    Secondary duties of the position include:
  • Consults with community individuals and groups on diversity issues
  • Provides mentorship to diverse constituencies
  • Serves on various campus committees
  • Serves as Lead of the PCHRE ASPIRE Resource Team
  • Serves as an advisor to various student clubs and organizations

    Qualifications:
    Minimum Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of effective leadership, personnel management and supervisory skills, including motivation, training, professional development, conflict resolution, and progressive discipline; demonstrated ability to effectively model appropriate professional behavior
  • Best practices, trends and laws pertinent to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Principles of institutional planning and budget processes
  • Computer office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and software packages (Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint; Google Suite)

    Skill/Ability to:

  • Provide effective leadership that fosters an inclusive workplace where diversity and individual differences are valued and leveraged to achieve the vision and mission of the university

    Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree with five years' professional experience leading and advancing equity initiatives, diversity programs or related experience
  • Lead or supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse populations, including diversity in gender identity, sexual identity, cultural/ethnic group identity, religion and others

    Preferred Requirements:
  • Trained in the methods and skills of the National Coalition Building Institute, International Experience in Interpersonal Violence prevention and interventions skills
  • Mediation and conflict resolution skills
