Under the direction of the Deputy Editor, will have responsibilities for supervision of staff and freelance writers in their Boston College Magazine, Online, and @BC assignments and for the solicitation and development of freelance contributors. Will develop story ideas and themes, and write and edit -including substantive, line, and copy edit- content for BCM, BCM Online, and @BC, and the online multimedia newsletter @BC. The AE is charged with bringing the highest journalistic standards to bear on our magazine and its products, as well as @BC, including an avid curiosity about all things, strict adherence to facts and fairness, and a determination to deliver complex stories in graceful and sophisticated prose, on deadline. In line with BCM's purpose of conveying the life and pursuits of Boston College to the University community and beyond, the AE is expected to demonstrate an interest in themes of higher education and of concern to this Jesuit, Catholic University.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $80,050 to $100,050; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
Bachelor's degree; 8+ years of editorial experience in Journalism, preferably magazine work; the ability to write and edit with flair, accuracy, and skill.
The successful candidate will have: outstanding editing and writing skills, integrity, discretion, and creativity. Strong interpersonal skills. The ability to earn the trust of and work well with authors and to draw the best from them. The ability to manage many projects, develop appropriate priorities, and meet deadlines.
All University Core Competencies are required. A high level of proficiency in teamwork, decision making/problem solving, communication, applying technology, valuing diversity, developing a big-picture perspective, and maintaining competency, productivity, and openness to change.
