Data Science Consultant


The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Data Science Consultant.

The Center for Social Research and the Center for Research Computing seek a Data Science Consultant with expertise in a quantitative science discipline and advanced technical skills to support research activities undertaken at the University of Notre Dame. This individual will consult directly with principal investigators and research personnel as well as work as part of interdisciplinary research teams. This individual must be intellectually curious and an independent and fast learner. The ideal candidate will be deeply familiar with statistics as well as standard and emerging tools and techniques for research design, data collection, and analysis. This position will require good knowledge of Python, R and C coding, and it is critical that the Data Science Consultant is able to work with unstructured data, whether from social media, video feeds, or audio.

  • To act as an advisor and consultant, providing data analysis support, research design, and project management advice and leadership in small to large scale projects with social sciences, science, and engineering.



  • To contribute to a broad range of research leadership activities including strategic planning, business development, proposal writing, project design, creation and formulation, applied grant finance, project budget development, communications and outreach.



  • To provide active technical training, including organizing and presenting data science and statistical tools symposia and training workshops, and manage graduate students providing statistical consultation.


NOTE: A preferred candidate has been identified for this position.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master of Science in Applied Statistics degree. One-six months of experience. Strong math skills, Fluency in one or more data analysis languages/environments such as R, Python, Julia, Stata, SPSS, and/or SAS; experience utilizing a high performance computing (HPC) environment; familiarity with documentation and version control.

Preferred Qualifications:
M.Sc in statistics or big data.
