Job Description

This position will be responsible for the coordination of residence cleaning and the supervision and management of staff assigned to that zone.

Ensures the proper procedures are completed by personnel and supplies are being utilized appropriately. Investigates all reports of damages and excessive messes, and addresses appropriately. Makes daily inspections of halls to ensure compliance with safety standards, sanitation and cleanliness. Consistently monitor daily cleaning schedule for each building, which includes bathrooms cleaning schedules, as well as daily responsibilities for the upkeep of common spaces. Monitors performance of staff and handles any concerns appropriately. Input work orders for trades staff via online work order system. Attends meetings and trainings as outlined by Managers. Manage and settle any staffing issues/conflicts as needed. Recommend personnel actions such as disciplinary issues, probationary employment. Perform weekly Kronos payroll ensuring all employees are input for the appropriate amount of time.

Communicates with external customers such as parents/alumni regarding Residence Hall conditions.

Ensures adequate supplies are available for staff, and maintains accurate records of inventory.
Maintains appropriate communication with departmental staff members in regards to summer processes. Conduct testing of new cleaning products and report findings as requested. Assist in Summer Cleaning planning and perform any tasks needed to ensure the satisfying stay of conference guests. Assists supervisors in the hiring process for facilities staff. Abides by and enforces all University and departmental policies and procedures. All other duties as assigned.

There will be peak times during the year (Commencement, large events, move in, move out, snow storms, flooding) where the Supervisor will be expected to make themselves available to work extraordinary hours.

Requirements

1. Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of supervision.
2. Demonstrated ability to successfully supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished.
3. Controlling work through periodic inspections.
4. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and give them in a precise, understandable manner.
5. Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in custodial operations.
6. Ability to operate tools and equipment used in custodial work and train staff on their use.
7. Ability to read and interpret documents;
8. Ability to understand, explain and apply the policies, procedures, specification, standards and guidelines governing assigned unit activities.
9. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
10. Ability to deal tactfully with others.
11. Ability to exercise sound judgment.
12. Must possess a valid Massachusetts driver's license.

Preferred:
1. Experience using computerized work order system, Google e-mail, calendar, Kronos payroll processing and PeopleSoft.
