The College Access Advisor supports the Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) which is grant funded by US Department of Education. This position provides community outreach and college access and enrollment services to target population including low-income, adult, and potential first-generation college students. Two full time positions available.

Advising/Counseling:

Assist students with properly completing the FAFSA, Verification and Title IV forms, SAP appeals, scholarship applications, and identifying all college funding possibilities; administer and interpret career assessments including the MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory; assist students with all admissions requirements including application, locating transcripts, finding immunization records, and identifying resources for study for placement exams; connect students who need a high school equivalency to appropriate classes; developing and delivering College Access workshops and presentations to community residents in 5 local counties; analyze cost, accreditation, and major availability to assist resident with college selection; negotiate and devise a plan to resolve student loan default for all students in that situation; develop career potential and offer guidance to federal work study students, academic work service students, Psychology Practicum students, and Social Work Interns.

Strategic Planning:

Recruit a minimum of 400 residents within the designated service areas from the target population and provide college access services. At least 2/3 must be both low income and first generation; devise a plan to meet all objectives outlined in the grant. 20% will complete their high school equivalency, 50% will apply to a college, 70% will apply for financial aid, and 40% will enroll in college; create community partnerships and strengthen existing ones to establish referral networks.

Analyzing:

Apply definitions and instructions given by US Dept of Education to enter appropriate data on database for each potential student; obtain and secure appropriate documentation of income and contact information for each individual served; assist Director with completion of annual performance report for US Dept of Education.

Ideal candidates will possess the following:
  • Knowledge of all aspects of financial aid and college admissions
  • Ability to advise and counsel students with career planning, financial aid and admissions
  • Excellent computer skills including working with a database, Excel, and word documents
  • Must have excellent public speaking skills
  • Ability to devise strategic plan to meet all approved objectives in federally funded grant.

Minimum Qualifications: Typically requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Must have valid driver's license and the ability to travel extensively in 5 counties. Occasional weekends, evenings, or overnight travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree; one year of experience in higher education in enrollment services and involvement in college and career advising with diverse audiences.
