Collection Specialist (Library & Museum Professional 1 - MR08)

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is looking for a Collection Specialist to join the Acquisitions & Content Management unit within the Collection Services Department of UTC Library. The Collection Specialist supports Librarians within the Acquisitions & Content Management unit by helping to manage the information lifecycle of print and electronic materials. This person in this position will be part of a team that works to develop, maintain, and provide access to collections that continue to support the teaching, learning, and research needs of the UTC community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with acquisition of library materials, both physical and electronic
Assist with maintenance of physical and electronic collections throughout the year
Prepare and interpret reports with complex data
Perform copy cataloging
Process renewals
Manage course reserves
Manage day-to-day operations for interlibrary loan and the delivery of digitization requests

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Ability to utilize a library service platform (LSP) or integrated library system (ILS) to complete tasks associated with the acquisition, description, management, or access/discovery of physical or electronic materials
Knowledge of research methods and tools such as online databases, web-based resources, and other reference sources
Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
Ability to manage projects and prioritize work independently and as part of a team
Ability to apply customer service skills to engage with colleagues and the UTC community in a productive and positive manner
Ability to present information from a variety of sources in a clear and concise manner
Ability to learn and adapt to new online systems
Ability to identify inconsistencies and problems and proactively contribute ideas towards a solution

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree (equivalent combination of relevant experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis for education)
One (1) year of professional or paraprofessional experience in a library environment performing acquisitions, cataloging, electronic resource management, resource sharing, and/or circulation tasks

Preferred qualifications:

Two (2) or more years of professional or paraprofessional experience in a library environment performing acquisitions, cataloging, electronic resource management, resource sharing, and/or circulation tasks
