The Search

The Carlson School of Management (Carlson), the University of Minnesota's (UMN) world-class business school, seeks an accomplished and entrepreneurial leader to serve as the inaugural Chief Diversity Officer and founding Director of The Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Business. This is a compelling opportunity to shape discourse on issues of equity and race for business enterprises and the next generation of leaders at a school that is part of one of the world's best public research universities, located in one of the nation's most vibrant business communities, with long-standing relationships across industries.

Carlson is dedicated to being a leader in business education and research by leveraging the intellectual capital, skills, and talents of their faculty and staff, and deep partnerships with the business community and alumni to help create a brighter future. At Carlson, "business as a force for good" is not just an unofficial motto plastered on buildings and signs. Students, faculty, and staff are tackling challenges faced by society by engaging globally to produce cutting-edge research and innovative business solutions. Beyond maximizing profits and creating greater efficiencies, at Carlson a business education is in service to others and it involves fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community where students, faculty, and staff alike are valued for their contributions and reach their potential through learning, work, and service.

Drawing on the strength and energy at Carlson, the CDO and Director will lead the school to make practical progress, daily, toward cultivating an inclusive community where students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds can be successful. Reporting directly to the Dean, the CDO and Director will work in close collaboration with senior leaders to lead the development and implementation of a strategic action plan that leverages current efforts; create a sustainable and lasting infrastructure focused on inclusion and equity that affects every unit, department, and program; and establish a culture of continuous learning and improvement centered on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The successful candidate will be an entrepreneur within the organization who is a sophisticated relationship builder, an innovative administrator, and a leader who inspires awareness, action, and enthusiasm to help Carlson flourish.
