Job Summary
The Program in the Environment (PitE) and School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) overarching mission is to contribute to the protection of the Earth's resources and the achievement of a sustainable society. Through research, education, and outreach, the faculty, staff, and students are devoted to generating knowledge and developing policies, techniques, and skills to help practitioners manage and conserve natural resources to meet the full range of human needs on a sustainable basis.

SEAS and PitE are seeking an experienced professional to work as part of a high-functioning team in the school's Office of Academic Programs (OAP), focusing on graduate and undergraduate student professional services. Specifically, we seek a driven individual that will exceed in preparing the students and graduates for employment opportunities, and overall professional services. The person in this position represents the school and its mission to many audiences and must perform responsibly and professionally and exercise excellent judgment in dealing with the many internal and external constituencies. This position reports to the Associate Director, Career Services and the Managing Director, Program in the Environment.

Responsibilities*
Provide counseling and guidance for PitE and SEAS' current students and alumni, also have a clear understanding and experience with databases, strategic partnership development, and thorough assessment of the needs of students related to career services. Work with staff to create and implement strategic processes that will guide SEAS/PitE's career services to establish and maintain high-quality job placement pipelines, as well as nurture external career-related connections. Person will also be responsible for supporting events and operations.

Support Student Job Search Process
  • Provide career counseling services for Undergraduate, Master's, and PhD students (resume and cover letter reviews, career direction, mock interviews, networking help, salary negotiations, etc.) from diverse backgrounds (ethnic, religious, socioeconomic, academic) with a focus on strong customer service.
  • Participate and help plan career activities including, but not limited to: career readiness workshops, employer and school information sessions, and networking events
  • Assist with student / alumni self-marketing skills on social media sites such as LinkedIn, blogs, and personal web.
  • Develop and deliver real and virtual career services workshops/events for prospective students, current students and alumni for professional development and employment opportunities.

Employer and Alumni Engagement
  • Serve as liaison for current and potential employers seeking to connect with SEAS and PitE students or alumni for professional development and employment opportunities. Assist in brokering employment and internship arrangements.
  • Build community involvement at the campus level: invite employers to speak at School, arrange on-campus interviews and organize job fairs

Data & Program Management
  • Assist and manage student and employer database systems.
  • Track and analyze job placement data and use to inform networking/relationship building opportunities.
  • Track alumni contact data collaboratively with the PitE/SEAS Development team.
  • Assist in planning and executing various career related events and programs.

Advising
  • Advise students on job and internship search process and professional skills development.

Required Qualifications*
  • Commitment to the PitE/SEAS mission.
  • Bachelor's degree and at least three to five years of related experience in either career services or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in multi-tasking, initiative in creative problem-solving, and adaptability.
  • Proven ability to network and form productive professional relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience in building the tools and databases required for evidence-based decision making. Expertise with computers and database/statistical software, and the ability to effectively integrate technology into service delivery.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills including verbal, written, and listening skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate well to staff and a diverse student body.
  • Desire to work in an office that places a high value on quality customer service, team orientation, and intentional planning. Ability to achieve results while contributing to the larger team. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a critical member of the Career Services team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Proven ability to handle detailed and confidential information in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Professional demeanor and presentation required.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan strategically.

Desired Qualifications*
A Master's degree is strongly preferred. Experience with environmental issues. Experience with MPathways and Career Services Manager (eRecruiter) recruiting and admissions modules. Familiarity with University of Michigan policies and procedures. Familiarity with FERPA and other government policies related to higher education.
