HIRING RANGE: $50,087 TO 53,033 ANNUALLY

CAMPUS MINISTRY DESCRIPTION: As a result of Whitworth University's commitment to an education of "mind and heart," Christian discipleship is integral to the institution's mission. Whitworth's Office of Spiritual Life cultivates opportunities for every student at Whitworth to grow with Jesus. These opportunities include weekly worship services, small group Bible studies, mentor relationships, valuable student leadership opportunities, Christian social justice work, and pastoral counseling, helping students grow in love for God and neighbor, locally and globally. This position focuses on enabling discipleship growth for the Whitworth student community in general while emphasizing ministry in the residence halls via the equipping of student leaders. Working in collaboration with the campus ministry staff, the Campus Pastor for Discipleship and Residence Hall Ministry will function as a pastor of discipleship, including pastoral mentoring, leadership training, preaching, and participation with the Dean of Spiritual Life in leading campus worship services. The person in this role also cultivates collaborative relationships with the Office of Student Life and residence life staff for the purpose of the Christian spiritual formation and flourishing of all students, thus deepening the community's commitment to Christ and Christ's mission in the world.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
1. Help lead campus ministry in theologically thoughtful discipleship efforts.
2. Work with residence life staff to develop, integrate, and implement the overall vision for residence hall ministry into the Whitworth culture and within residence life.
3. Supervise the student Campus Ministry Coordinators living in the residence halls and other student leaders who serve in bridge positions between campus ministry and other departments (like our Social Justice Coordinator and the ASWU Spiritual Life Coordinator) through regular one-on-one and team meetings, including weekly GE330 meetings.
4. Serve as a member of the GE330 teaching team.
5. Work collaboratively with the resident directors to evaluate, assess, and guide the Campus Ministry Coordinators in their roles within the residence hall leadership teams.
6. Serve as an active member of the Campus Ministry team, including involvement in the design, support, and implementation of campus ministry programs and special worship services.
7. Participate in, preach at (minimum twice per semester), and regularly serve as liturgist at Chapel Community Worship.
8. Teach TH-381 course designed to train student leaders in effective campus ministry leadership.
9. Provide regular and crisis-response pastoral counseling.
10. Provide effective mentoring to students both male and female.
11. Be an active incarnational and pastoral presence in the Whitworth student community.
12. Cultivate a life of study that provides depth of insight for pastoral work.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: In support of role as campus pastor and as time permits after primary functions:
1. Pursue relationships with Whitworth alumni, providing ongoing pastoral care, mentorship, and letters of recommendation.
2. Build relationships with the local church community through preaching and teaching.
3. Teach other courses as an adjunct lecturer, as appropriate, in collaboration with the
Department of Theology and with the approval of the Dean of Spiritual Life.
4. Cooperate with various campus groups in seeking the thriving of students at Whitworth.
5. As applicable, serve on the Women's and Gender Studies advisory committee.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Master's degree/Masters of Divinity degree.
Ordained, or eligible for ordination.
A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and the Christian faith.
A good knowledge of and experience with the Reformed tradition.
Demonstrated ability to minister effectively with students from a variety of racial and ethnic populations, including female students.
Experience in pastoral counseling and mentoring.
Experience in preaching/teaching.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to initiate action with limited supervision.
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with faculty, staff and students.
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated awareness of and commitment to establishing effective relationships and
positive communication across multiple dimensions of diversity, including, but not limited to, race, gender, physical and mental ability, socioeconomic class, sexual orientation, religious belief, national origin or other identities.
The ability to work in a dynamic and changing higher education environment.
Experience in university ministry desired (campus, church based, or equivalent).
Demonstrated successful experience working as a member of a high functioning team.
A commitment to the educational mission of Whitworth University as a Christian liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church.
