Salary:

CSU Classification Range: $3,470 - $6,681 per month
Anticipated Starting Salary: $3,750 - $4,250 per month

Note: This is a full-time, probationary, non-exempt position.

Organizational Description:

Technology Services provides administrative information services, core services, and desktop support to the Fresno State community. Our department consists of a well trained team of individuals dedicated to providing effective technology and quality services and support that are integrated into the daily activities of the entire campus.

Overview:

Working under the general direction of the Deputy Chief Information Officer in Technology Services, the Business Analyst supports the requirements gathering, execution and completion of projects as well as supporting the administrative applications for California State University, Fresno. This position provides support for the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, OnBase and other enterprise-level applications and system interfaces from these applications.

The Business Analyst will effectively collaborate with peers within the division and contribute on projects within all areas of Technology Services. The Business Analyst will also facilitate relationships with internal and external stakeholders and will use effective communication to ensure successful relationships and service delivery. The scope of duties include analyzing user system and application needs, determining and evaluating alternative solutions and approaches to meeting those needs and preparing various statistical and status reports. This position may be assigned a variety of other tasks including requirements analysis, documentation and quality assurance testing.

All IT professionals protect confidentiality and integrity of data and electronic information from incidental, intentional or preventable misuse or loss to the University. All IT professionals will consider and implement standard practices and protocols to support digital accessibility best practices to support Executive Order 1111 and CSU ATI efforts.

Position Summary:

All members of the Technology Services staff must perform their work in accordance with the principles below. Specific service levels and procedures associated with these responsibilities will be defined by the employee's manager and may vary depending on the duties, tasks and projects assigned.

  • Work towards the stated goals and outcomes of the department and university and take an active role in maintaining your understanding of these goals and outcomes

    Major Duties of the Position Include:

  • Interview business process owners, coordinate meetings, gather current business process information and map out current and future processes; provide technical solutions to meet business processing requirements
  • Provide customer support to all supported business areas in campus administrative and academic departments; provide second-level support for identified problems in supported applications
  • Gather and document goals and other key performance indicators and metrics for the process to be automated
  • Gather and document business rules, policies and integration points
  • Assist in quality assurance testing for the application of system patches, releases, and upgrades to the development and testing data bases; assist and direct functional testing of these environments prior to their being moved to production; coordinate with change control staff when needed in the move to production
  • Document internal training procedures and prepare training materials
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot third party software
  • Participate in meetings to determine and implement recommended resolutions with vendor support staff, Technology Services staff and campus functional users
  • Coordinate and maintain a positive working relationship with other information technology resources on campus to best serve the changing administrative computing needs of the campus
  • Provide recommendations to the Deputy CIO on tactical and strategic technical resource decisions

    Secondary Duties of the Position Include:

  • Participate in Application Support Teleconferences for the campus

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Work experience in analysis and design and related application support functions in a process improvement system
  • Recent experience that demonstrates competence in business and systems analysis
  • Knowledge of administrative systems development
  • Excellent analytical, communication and writing skills
  • Ability to analyze business computing needs and recommend appropriate solutions
  • Ability to apply consultative skills to assess user needs and communicate technology systems and solutions
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to perform systems and applications needs analysis, prepare requests for proposals, and conduct feasibility studies

    Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in computer science, business or related discipline; additional qualifying experience may be substituted for required education on a year for year basis

    Preferred Skills:

  • Three or more years of directly related work experience in analysis and design and related application support functions utilizing a process improvement system
