Arena Manager

This position will manage the day-to-day functions, staffing, maintenance scheduling and operation of the Silvio Conte Forum. The Conte Forum is a 7,000 seat arena in the lower Chestnut Hill campus of Boston College. Conte Forum is home to the Men's and Women's hockey and Basketball programs. Conte forum houses the Power Gym, which serves as a practice facility for the basketball programs and home court to the Women's Volleyball program.

Conte Forum hosts many athletic and university events. Many of the events are televised. This position will be asked to triage issues and problems that arise before during and after these events. Athletics is a fast paced environment, both patron safety and fan experience is paramount. Many times decisions will have to be made to maintain fan and student athlete safety, equipment failure or malfunction and or staffing issues. Multitasking, problem solving and strong mechanical skills will be required.

Athletic Maintenance is a division of the University Facilities Services Management Department. Conte Forum and its individual spaces (Shea Room function space, athletic offices, luxury suites, Power Gym and all mechanical areas) are maintained, updated and cleaned by Facilities Services. Annual operational budgets, staff overtime and capital renewal projects will be part of the Manager's responsibility. Many maintenance and capital improvement projects are planned, funded and managed jointly with athletic maintenance and athletic department.

This position will manage and work with the Supervisor, Athletic Facilities Maintenance, approximately 6 full time Athletic Maintenance staff, University trades staff and managers, and students to achieve a safe, clean and playable ice and wood court playing surface for our programs. The Arena Manager will manage the outside surrounding areas of the Conte Forum, including: trashing, light landscaping and snow and ice treatment in certain situations. This position will work as a direct liaison with the Athletic department, often to achieve continuity in the expectations, operational needs and scheduling maintenance tasks.

The Arena Manager will assist with and schedule the upkeep and preventive maintenance of all rink equipment including: ICE CUBE refrigeration system, ice resurfacing equipment and lighting system.
This role will schedule continuing education, strive to keep a neat and organized working environment for all staff and provide training on safety in the workplace.

This position will need to assist staff with such items as: portable floor operations, trash after functions/games/events, as well as many other facility maintenance issues.

This position reports to the Associate Director, Athletic Facilities Maintenance.
The incumbent will be asked to work together with the Supervisor, Athletic Facilities Maintenance to schedule weekly work and event coverage. This will include some holidays, nights and weekend shifts as dictated by the Athletics and event schedules. Every effort will be made to make the events and floor conversion coverage as equitable as possible.



Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $74,350 to $92,950; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements:

MINIMUM:
- Bachelor's degree
- 5 years of relevant experience
- Valid driver's license
- Supervisory experience required
- Prior budgetary responsibilities
- Ice Refrigeration trouble-shooting / repair
- Zamboni experience, trouble-shooting / repair
- Experience and knowledge of ice installation and maintenance including ICE KUBE refrigeration systems, Hockey rink dasher board systems, Ice painting and marking.
- Ability to sometimes work a very demanding schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, double shifts
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor and motivate a diverse workforce
- Excellent verbal, written and public relations skills


PREFERRED:
- Previous sports arena experience
- Portable basketball floor installation and maintenance experience
- Ability to manage and participate in multiple projects and multiple crews in a productive and safe manner
- Managing a multi-purpose, 5,000+ seat sports and entertainment facility and organizing and directing related events
- Knowledge and previous experience working with NCAA Division 1 hockey, basketball, volleyball and other sports
-Knowledge of Federal OSHA and Massachusetts Department of Labor Standards
-Working knowledge of tools and equipment related to managing a multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility including plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems
-Experience with building systems e.g., Metasys, Johnson Controls, Musco lighting
-Kronos time reporting
-Microsoft Office and Google Suite
