The Office of Grant and Research Development, Eastern Washington University is inviting qualified applicants to apply for our full-time Associate for Grant Development position.

The position will be part of the Grants Office team, under the direction of the Executive Director and Associate Director. The Associate for Grant Development will actively seek out, develop and submit appropriate and high-quality grant proposals that will help to grow programs and research enterprises.

Required Qualifications:
To be considered qualified for this position, you must meet the minimum qualifications defined below:
  • Bachelors degree in technical writing, English or closely related field
  • General knowledge of grant applications and proposal submission
  • Strong writing, editing and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure as part of a team

Demonstrated interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience preparing successful applications/proposals for grants and contracts.
  • Experience in personalized relationship management and proposal development and submissions to foundations and corporations.
  • Prior experience in a university office of sponsored programs.
  • Working understanding of electronic research administration, including Grants.gov, Research.gov and eRA Commons

Job Duties:

Responsibility / Duty: Research grant opportunities that will help to grow programs and research enterprises at the university.
  • Become familiar with the mission, objectives and needs of the university to seek appropriate grant opportunities effectively.
  • Routinely review and analyze funding databases, Grants.gov announcements, agency grant notification emails and other funders websites to identify funding opportunities.
  • Seek out grant opportunities that are appropriate to college and departmental needs.
  • Interpret grantor guidelines pertaining to specific proposals, and determine whether proposals meet agency review criteria and conform to university policies and procedures.
  • Support the pre-award activities of the executive director and associate director.
  • Communicate grant opportunities to executive director and associate director, and distribute information to EWU faculty and staff as appropriate.
  • Research issues of importance to the Grants Office as assigned by the executive director.
  • Advise and support executive director and associate director as appropriate.

Responsibility / Duty: Work collaboratively with the campus community to grow proposal development.
  • Build relationships across campus to become effective in the position.
  • Participate in work groups for institution-wide projects requiring the cooperation of several departments/units.
  • Collaborate with the Development Team as directed by the executive director to identify and pursue grant opportunities that specifically support the Universitys comprehensive campaign priorities and initiatives.

Responsibility / Duty: Develop and serve as the principal writer on various grant applications including government, tribal, foundation and corporate funders.
  • Serve as principal writer in proposal development as directed Support faculty and EWU staff in their development of grant and contract proposals.
  • Assist with proposing ideas, designing, developing and writing proposals for college- and/or university-wide funding efforts.
  • Consult with faculty and administration to obtain information necessary for development of fundable institutional proposals, including information required to address specific grant criteria.
  • Modify and/or refine proposals to meet university requirements and funding agencys guidelines.
  • Edit proposals for coherence and adherence to guidelines.
  • Proofread proposals for clarity, including correcting typographical and other writing errors.
  • Help develop letters of commitment for the signatures of president, provost and deans as needed for grant submission.
  • Interpret grant-makers electronic submission requirements and advise Grants Office staff and faculty submitting grants about these requirements.

Conditions of Employment:
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

All new employees must comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR and proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
Salary Information: The salary range for this position is $60,522 (minimum) up to $65,000. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience and skills.
