The Opportunity

The associate vice chancellor and associate dean is focused on ensuring student success, retention, and degree completion through academic advising, co- and cross-curricular advising, guided exploration, and provision of support and resources to guide and empower students.

The associate vice chancellor and associate dean provides administrative leadership to promote excellence in all aspects of advising and student success for undergraduate students at NC State University.

This position manages the Exploratory Studies Program, the Office of Advising Technology, the Career Development Center, the Disability Resource Office, and TRIO Collegiate, while also directing training and professional development for advisors across campus. This position reports to the vice chancellor and dean for the Division of Academic and Student Affairs. It is a dotted line report to the senior associate dean of University College.

The associate vice chancellor and associate dean is responsible for the following: guiding the administration of Exploratory Studies, a program that advises students through a structured process of major exploration and transition to the university; directing advising outreach functions for NC State University which includes academic support for students changing majors, external transfer students, and international students along with the training and continuing education for primary role and faculty advisors throughout the university, management of university-level advising committees, and the development and dissemination of best practices for student success; directing the office of Advising Technology, the Career Development Center, the Disability Resource Office, and Trio Collegiate; and Special Projects.

The associate vice chancellor and associate dean will guide a team of leaders who manage the areas listed above with the goal of promoting a safe and inclusive environment where everyone in our Pack can thrive and grow.

Requirements

The Division of Academic and Student Affairs is seeking an experienced student services professional with demonstrated success gained through academic leadership, support of cultural and ethnic diversity, and commitment to ensuring successful student academic and non-academic experiences.

A relevant post-baccalaureate degree from an appropriately accredited institution is required.

Preference will be given to those with a Ph.D. or EdD from an accredited institution or a combination and experience with at least seven years or greater of related academic advising administration; experience as an effective college-level academic advisor; experience in increasing undergraduate student retention or graduation rates; demonstrated success in promoting the use of retention technologies in higher education to advance student success.
